Yannek

did you ever resolve this issue?  I'm havingthe same problem.  Expedition says the CMAP charts are out of date, but the CMAP Map manager says they are fine.  I have reinstalled the Map Manager also, but still see the same issue.

Step #1:  Find the short name used by YB to identify the race (example rbi2022, rolexs2h2021, plyw2022)  Often you can get the code from the race organisers or just work it out.  You will be able to view the race directly on the YB website with the same code - (e.g  http://yb.tl/rolexs2h2021 )
Step #2:  Under menu option Sail, Click on YB Tracking.  Enter the YB code in the box provided

Step #3:  First time here, select Update Boat IDs and Update Handicaps (if appropriate).  Click Download
Step #4:  Back on the Sail menu, click on Boats.  You should see the list of all boats participating in the race.  Click Auto Color to brighten things up!
Step #5:  Choose a boat to be the reference boat.  Normally this would be your own boat, or if observing remotely, just pick a boat you are specifcally interested in.  If you dont pick a reference boat, the other boats will not display.  Pick a boat by clicking on the reference column.  Click OK
Step #6  Click Tracking.  You may get a blank screen.  Click View All.  Now you will see the tracked boats and the latest position reported.
Step #7:  Make sure the tracking display is enabled under settings->display->Tracking

So why cant you see the boats tracked on the chart view?  Because you only have one position for each boat.  You need at least before you can see their track.  Go away for an hour or two. Click YB Tracking again and Download.  Now you should see all boats tracked by color.

To receive the updates by email, you can use Saildocs.  It returns a text file which you can save to the tracking folder (under Expedition Data).  But this requires that you send an email for each update required.

What you probably want is to set up a mechanism to automatically download the position file every hour.

Expedition provides an abundance of tools for downloading weather data.  Which mechanism and source you use will depend on your location, your purpose and whether you want to pay for premium sources.  Of course there is value in retrieving multiple weather models to compare and to improve confidence in the weather predictions.

Lets start with the basics and then explore some more elaborate alternatives.

Step #1:  Click on Wx Data on the main menu, and select Expedition as your Grib Data source.  Now left click and drag on the chart to highlight an area for your forecast.

Step #2: The next dialog presents a conisderable range of options for weather models and for data ranges.  Lets select the GFS 0.11 Model for now.  You can choose the number of days yuo want to download in the presented dropdown.  Different models offer different periods of time and resolution.  Click download.  Note the dialog box shwoing 'connecting', when the download is complete the dialog box will dissappear.  If you choose a very large area, or higher resolution the download will take more time.  This wont be much of a consideration when you are at home, but if at sea and dependent on satellite based internet, you will need to be more selective.

You may not see any thing initially, possibly because you have not selected a current time frame.

Step #3:  Click on Weather on the main menu.  And in the Display Time section, hit Now.

You shoudl see a representation of the weather using barbs, colors, shading etc.  If you dont, try clicking on the WindFlow button on the main menu.  This will override the display settings.

Display Settings for weather are powerful and complicated and will be dealt with elsewhere.

Step #4:  Click on Show Tooltip.  Then, as you hover over any area of the chart you can see the forecasted weather at that location at the time selected.

I bumped into to regular contributor Ross Hobson on his racing machine Pegasus at the recent Galway stopover of the Round Britain & Ireland Race.  We spent a couple of hours discussing Expedition and trying to resolve some minor issues. Like most of us here, we're getting older and less able to retain information.  We also don't use Expedition on a daily or even weekly basis, so much of the knowledge we gain gets lost soon after.  While this forum, the Expedition manual and the books are all valuable, they don't have the structure to enable us to look up how to do a specific task or operation within Expedition.  Ross explains that he maintains a set of documents with screenshots of Expedition that explain how to do some common things that we easily forget.  He has offered to share them and I'm happy to edit them and post them on the forum.

I'm confident that many of the forum members have similar personal guides, notes, and checklists that they would be interested in sharing.  With that in mind I am creating this section of the forum.  It's not a general 'over and back 'type of chat forum like the other sections, it should be more easily searched and referenced, so I will try to restrict it to just the necessary content.  If you feel any of it needs editing then you can let me know.
I'll create some empty topics to start, if you have anything you'd like to add just send it over.

Thanks
Fergal.

Happy to confirm that resolved the issue.  11.5.19 correctly supports the new logging format.

Thanks Nick

Is anyone else having issues with logging?  My logs from last night are quite garbled and I can't use the playback feature on them.  It looks like a field number is being prepended to each value , moving everything out of place.  I compared it with a log file from last year and it looks completely different.
Did something change or did I mess up a setting ?

This is the one that I use:

https://www.bandg.com/bg/type/instrument-sensors-and-transducers/compass-sensors/gps-antenna-bg-zg100-module-pack/

Works great for us, high accuracy, GPS, 10Hz, additional satellite support.  Also functions as a compass and provides heel and trim.

I run Expedition with CMAP 4D on two systems - 1.7 GHz i5 with 8GB RAM and a Tablet  with a Celeron1.1 GHz with 4GB.  It runs great on both.  Both running Window 10.  I wouldn't be concerned about your move to 4D

Ernie

Thanks for noticing! 5 years of great information, great questions and great support from Nick.

I set this up on a whim after chatting with Nick and noting his reluctance to deal with spammers, hackers and trolls, but acknowledging the need for a source of wisdom on the tool.
Expedition is a complex piece of software and expertise in it is widely distributed around the globe.  By setting up the forum we created an opportunity to ask questions, suggest solutions and help each other.
Nick's continuing presence and daily responses means that we get great support without deluging him with email.

While I often wish the forum had more features, better search and admin controls, I'm limited by the boardhost platform.  But I think it fulfills its purpose well.

I get multiple attempted registrations by trolls and spammers daily but the email verification mechanism keeps them at bay for the most part.

Thanks to Ernie, Nick, Campbell, unplugged, sheldon.haynie, us7070, DuncanR, ZeeZee and others for your regular posts.  I note that Nick alone has posted 1656 times!
