Expedition System Restore methodology

Some processes on how to use Expedition System Restore

Re: Expedition System Restore methodology

So, the answer to many questions and problems seems to be Expedition System Restore.  Is there an order of operations that's most efficient and/or a process that requires the least rebuilding afterward?

For example, I start Expedition.  The program begins opening, the window opens, it continues for about 5 seconds, then the screen closes and it's failed to open fully.  Sounds like a System Restore problem for sure, but that app has 8 different buttons.   What order should I try things?  If the program won't open fully, how to I backup licenses/settings/whatever so that I can at least get it working while using Restore.  I'm deathly afraid of losing a bunch of stuff and wasting Nick's time getting my license working again, etc.

Does anyone have a good idea of workflow for this?

Thanks,
Jack

Re: Expedition System Restore methodology

Unless the you choose to restore the licenses, the license should be safe.
I always save the email with the license.
I always start with running the Expedition.exe and repair, if that does not work, then with Expedition closed, I rename the \program data\Expedition folder to "Expedition Backup", start Expedition to let it recreate the new Expedition Data Folder, copy the license to the new folder, and relaunch Expedition.
If everything is working then I start coping the different folders and files to the new Expedition data folder.
This method has always worked better than Expedition's System restore.

Re: Expedition System Restore methodology

The System restore app is mostly there to make it easy and safe to reset things.

As Astolfo says, it is a good idea to back up the data folder. This should probably be done occasionally/regularly anyway.

For the registry settings (including display states), you can back them up form the menu at the top left.

The System restore app has had a face-lift for the next update btw.
