I use a LifeProof case and arm band along with a sweat band to keep it from slipping down my forearm.

Duncan, yes, I got a little excited reading and then responding about the Fourier Transform. I am getting prepped now for short race to Mexico, this weekend, and will try to post an example afterwards from last week's w/l racing where we had some oscillations going on.  Cheers.

Ensemble routing is a good topic. Or expanded in to the whole uncertainty or probability concept of routing.  I recall Will had a discussion on variation of parameters (eg. Twd and Tws) in the book. This idea expanded to reliability of different models, etc. to get a confidence in or probability of a range of resulting outputs.  This is something that I have been interested in learning more about. If it exists, at this time.  For the advanced chapter.

For the Gentle Introduction, I normally focus on just the charts and marks when showing another crew member how to use the software.  There is a little delima that Exp is so complex that no one but the navigator knows how to use it. But a few others on the boat should know the basics.  The Gentle Introduction would be a good read to get to something like this.

Let's keep ideas flowing as we are ready for the 2nd edition :-)

My experience with the Fourier transform is that it converts a time domain function in to the frequency (or period) domain.  For time histories, we normally plot the parameter as a function of period. It  would be interesting to see the shape of a Twd transform funtion this way.  In the above example, for Twd, I assume that whatever Twd is at the time, the transform is then giving the period of that Twd.  I have normallly tried to evaluate Twd oscillations, while racing, by a visual process looking more for the period of change of the Twd, such that I can report up that the Twd oscillation is approx. X degrees with a period of approx. Y minutes to try to help the tactitian get in phase with the shifts.  So to me, it is the period of Twd change, which might be the slope of the transform function.  Thoughts?

I ended up doing as Ventus Navigation said except entered 255 for both of the last two octets in the IP address to get it to connect.

We were hoping you would find success.
I have XP and will try this weekend and post my results.

Thanks Campbell. Grided sounds like the way I thought Exp has historically done it. Is that correct?

Nick, would you provide a brief explanation of the two different routing algorithms and any important distinctions? Thanks

Nick White said on FB that it is on the Weather Settings page and to select Streamlines instead of Barbs.  It looks like you need version 10.0.12 or newer. 10.1 is ready for uploading. I had trouble on my last upgrade with a Windows file that also needed to be upgraded. It  just would not load.
