When I try to download the NOAA Pacific 500 mb forecasts within Expedition, I get an error message "waiting for server" but nothing downloads.  The Atlantic 500 mb forecasts are working and download very quickly.  Is this a NOAA problem or an issue with Expedition link?

What is current thinking about best way to manage the large number of routes resulting from multiple runs with historic grib files?  Do people just create a separate marks.dat file for each such analysis?  Is there any (easy) way to have the historic routings available for reference in Expedition while a current race is in progress?

Thanks, I think this was the problem.  The SoCal race had finished, so I changed to a different race in order to test the YBT functions live.  When I selected the reference boat as the last step in setting up the new race, the Tracking window populated with all the data.  But I am nearly certain I had picked a reference boat for the prior race.  Does the reference boat need to satisfy any particular criteria in order to be a "valid boat" for purposes of the tracking function?  In the current race, I experimented with changing the reference boat, and all the boats I selected seemed to work.

I am practicing YBT with the SoCal300 race currently in progress.  I have downloaded Boat IDs, selected a few boats to track, selected a reference boat, downloaded positions from the start to halfway through with JSON, and then downloaded several single positions after that.  Tracks appear properly on chart.  But when I click on the Tracking icon to get details of how my selected boats are performing against the reference boat, the Tracking popup window appears with no data.  Clicking on Time produces a blank dropdown menu.  Toggling the Plotted boats only icon on and off does nothing.  Clicking View all shows all the positions of all boats in the race.  I suspect I am making a simple mistake, and would appreciate suggestions.

Also, I am unclear as to how the "Set display time" button on this window works.  Does it set chart display time to last position downloaded?

Thanks all for your help.

Thanks, Nick.  We have not used Iridium Go much to get Gribs because of speed and connection problems.  We will have to try it again.

One complication on our boat is the Iridium Go is NOT wired into the boat network (which relies on a 4G modem and SailorSatphone for data access).  To use the Iridium Go as a backup, we need to log in to the Iridium Go wifi network, which disconnects the laptop running Expedition from the boat network.  We not only lose real-time data while downloading data through the Iridium, but when we reconnect to the boat network, we have not been able to access data from the race prior to the disconnection – in particular, race tracking and stripchart info.

This actually is not just an Iridium problem.  The Expedition laptop sometimes gets disconnected from the boat network due to other problems.  When we reconnect, Stripchart data starts over from the time of reconnection, and we usually lose prior tracking data on other boats in the race.  Are we doing something wrong?  Is there a way to reconnect to the prior data recorded for that race?

The version history for 11.19.0 (and 11.18.7) refers to updates for Iridium GO.  What has changed recently?  We are thinking of using the new Iridium Go Exec on our boat.  We found the original Iridium Go too slow and unstable for Grib downloads, but the Iridium Go Exec seems more promising.

Nick - I've done further testing, and I think there is a bug in the Copy function in the Marks management window.  I'm using a new installation of Exp,  I used the Copy function to copy an existing route, rename it and modify it, and set the new route as the active route.  I then saved Settings manually, and also when exiting Exp.  When Exp restarts, Exp does not show the new route as the active route. Instead, Exp shows the route that I had copied as the active route.  If I create the same modified route manually as a new route (without using the Copy function) and save it as the active route, then Exp does show the modified route as the active route when Exp restarts.  It seems like some ID tag for the route is not being updated when a new route is created using the Copy function?

I think the Copy function is very useful (saves a lot of time), so hopefully this is an easy fix.

Nick - Because of ongoing problems, we switched to using Exp on backup computer this week. When I copied the marks.dat file to new computer, the problem of Exp starting at a different active route occurred again.  I tried saving and exiting Exp with a couple of different active routes and found it was only the route for last week's race that Exp was not saving.  I then remembered I created that route using the Copy function in the marks management window, and realized that Exp on restarting was showing the original route I copied and edited to make last week's route.  So I wonder if some pointer to the original route is not being changed when the Copy route function is used?

Thanks, Nick.  I created empty new .XML file using Notepad and that worked.
