General Discussion » Enc chart hardware ID? » 2/15/2023 8:44 am

Also noticed that David Burch has provided some videos on S63 charts in general and dealing with NZ and Chartworld charts specifically. He's written these as part of the 2nd revsion of his electronic charts book - they can be found here

Software Releases » 11.16.11 not loading on upgrade » 8/30/2022 12:25 am

I've just upgraded from the 11.16.7 to 11.16.11 and the splash/confirmation screen appears but on accepting that the main page loads (no maps but 'c-map' at the top) and then it crashes. I have tried to reinstall 11.16.7 to get the system working again but see  a x80070666 error - another version of this program is already installed.

Issue fixed with the 11.16.12 build

Technical Q&A » Bad Course Error » 8/12/2022 12:15 am

Sparky, had this error this morning after windows kindly rebooted the laptop last night - noted that no mark of the active course was being highlighted and the arrows keys would not change this. Found that I needed to deactivate the current course I was using and then reactivate it to be able to set the 'current' mark and then I could optimise - btw using v11.16.6

Technical Q&A » Scheduler? » 8/09/2022 2:39 am

If you are monitoring a race it means that you need to estimate the number of updates you need but this is straight forward. What I am seeing is the time difference in the individual boats means that they may get excluded from the update - the sail/race tracker/tracking shows the most recent update as 10:04 (BST) and the entries in the database/racetracking show times of 09:00:01, 09:00:04, 09:00:05, 09:00:06 - the boat for 09:00:01 is excluded and not updated when it syncs on the load. Is it falling outside a predefined time window?

As Sparky flags not much difference with regards to the US but one thing I do find useful is the 3D feature

Networking Issues » Comar NMEA-2-WIFI » 7/08/2019 12:38 am

I was racing on a boat at the weekend with a Comra Systems nmea-2-wifi unit and have included the config here for reference as I could not find any existing data on it.

The unit offers a mux for nmea 0183 @ 4800 + 34800 and distributes this over wifi

To support the unit I increased the number of networks ports by 1, leaving 0 for the expedition feed
The Comar unit SSID is ‘Wifi-2-NMEA XXXX’, where the later is unique to the device with no password
Server address is 1.2.3.4 and it will allocate an address with of 1.2.3.14 or higher to the device

Since it is distributing NMEA 0183 you display the raw data to check the feed. I then changed the expedition network address to 1.2.3.255 for the UDP data.

Manual is available here but note you need to create an account to access it - https://comarsystems.com/download/nmea-2-wifi-manual/

Technical Q&A » Core:Initialize Error » 7/01/2019 2:06 am

Nick, I've zipped and uploaded a small subset that are leading to the error and shared via dropbox

If I delete the files from the 27th and 28th and just leave the those from the 29th then expedition is fine

Technical Q&A » Core:Initialize Error » 6/30/2019 6:05 am

Just had another occurrence of this error on upgrading to 10.11.2 - for now I've just cleaned out the grib directory so it loads and coped back the gribs I needed for analysis

I did check c-map and it was only showing an update to wwb for the install

Technical Q&A » Your Chart Data is Obsolete Message » 5/13/2019 11:21 am

Hi, I also recently started getting chart data obsolete messages on starting Expedition but C-Map (chart/c-map/my maps) was showing that there were no updates available and if I checked the store (chart/c-map/store/account) it was not showing the availability of any updates (most recent being 43).

On further analysis what I found was that there were three copies of the EW-D226 in the charts directory (programdata/c-map/mapsmanager/charts/EW-D226) on my machine. The configuration file EW-D226 (programdata/c-map/mapsmanger/EW-D226.conf) was pointing at the most recent version, 43 but it appears that Expedition was loading the first chart, which was out of date.

I tested this by copied the charts directory and deleting the PCL and MRC files for the older entries (40 & 41). This stopped the warning messages and ensured that Expedition was loading the most recent copy on the machine. This has also allowed me to recover around 20GB of my hard drive.

PS I can get it to a consistent state by resetting WWD303 as per Nick's post
