Nick, does this mean you can now simply copy and send the marks.xml file between computers, rather than using the Marks Export/Import routine?

That works just fine Nick, course dist 385 nm, race dist as calculated SOG * Time = 403 miles. 7 tacks, 1 gybe, average TWA 115 degrees. A gentleman's race.

Nav, thanks for the quick reply. I'm aware of the delta function, but not Log BSP or Log SOG - and of course I can't add them retrospectively . What are they measuring?

Is it possible to get distance between two wands from a Stripchart variable? I know one could do it in Expedition using dividers, but as I'm already pulling other values from Stripchart, it would be easier if one can.

G'day all, I wonder whether "Tablets" needs it's own topic, Perhaps with a preceding derogatory adjective, but I shan't go there.
I'm in the market for a new tablet for an owner; it is clear that Android tablets represent a considerable cost advantage over Windows tablets.
What comms software are people using and liking?
* MS RDP has the disadvantage that it blanks one screen;
* Splashtop is nice but requires a conversation with a Splashtop server to reconnect, not convenient offshore;
* Teamviewer is apparently used, I have no personal experience using it for this purpose;
* Other?
Cheers

And contrary to what others are saying, the rugged tablet market is - I think - burgeoning - think of Sailproof and Rugged Tablets NZ as well as the obvious manufacturers of devices intended for slaughterworks, military and surveying, yes I grant you none of them saline environments.
There is probably on this website a separate tab for tabletty things.

Hi Chelsea, been a few days writing govt policy papers ... one does what one can to live.
In answer to your immediate question - and in doing this we may achieve the apparent limit - I would never use a solution that involves anything other than Windows when the problem is more than 24 hours offshore. That way you can set up downstairs and upstairs solutions with Expedition potentially separate i.e. installed independently on both devices and having the possibility of GPS input separately. Sure, 6 hour race, who cares if the iPad doesn't behave properly? Walk downstairs or use your phone w Navionics.
And yes, I'm accustomed to wet boats whose electronics are dodgy after a year or so .... generously.
Try PM'íng again if you wish. Campbell Field definitely has a greater wealth of experience in these things than moi.

Do not touch Samsung tablets for marine applications. PM me if you want the details.
Also, as noted by Sparky, the only way to use Expedition on them is via emulation software, and Splashtop for Android, while it works, hasn't been updated in some time.

Kite, there is certainiy an error there. As Barne suggests, do speedo and compass calibrations as a first step. Until they are in good shape, nothing else matters.
Presuming this to be a recent problem, also find your compass in the boat and check it isn't loose and no metal has mysteriously been placed near it.

I get them from dive shops. They can be a bit hard to find, but
claim to have them.
