Proudman Tides - Northwest Europe 1.8 km

Hi,

I'm a UK south coast sailor, who cruises more than races these days, and is a bit of a data nerd. I have a squid subscription, which includes tidal grib data. Would I see any benefits from buying the proudman data? There's plenty of other things I can throw the money at (I own a 30 year old Swan - there's no shortage of ways to spend money on that). I presume that the grib data might actually be more accurate predictions of flows as it can account for atmospheric effects, but presume the main benefit is in being able to project further ahead than the 10 day grib data set.

Does anyone understand the relative merits of the two approaches?

Tom

The SHOM and Proudman datasets were implemented before current models were widely available in grib or netcdf formats.

One advantage is they also work far into the future.
