Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

I forget the details for H3000, but almost certainly you need to tell the processor what to send.

The Hydra versions couldn't send HLink.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Hi there,
I bought a boat with an H3000 and the 3000 GFD controller on the mast pod didn't work so i replaced it with the 5000 GFD. So the instruments work but to control the 3000 I need to get at it via the serial port. I connected my laptop with expedition to the serial port and the configurations match the port and the 3000 manual. Boat was setup to use the serial port (not the USB).
There's a bunch of B&G options in the expedition instrument drop down but the only one that gives me anything is H3000/5000 HLINK

i'm seeing the OV commands being sent but no inbound IV commands in the raw data tab
the OV commands i see, seem to have an extra comma when i look at the raw data
so instead of #OV,1,1,65 i'm seeing #OV,,1,1,65

any thoughts on what i'm doing wrong?

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Yes, that suggests the B&G isn't replying. The #OV sentences are just Expedition asking for data.

Make sure the port window in Exp says Open at the top.

It could be something as simple as a bad connection or broken wire. Also, have you checked to see if the jumper for the serial or USB port is in the correct position?

If it is the basic H3000 Hydra, it won't support HLink, so you could try the B&G Hydra option.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Hi Nick,
thanks, i was looking a photo i took of the H3000 connections and that serial cable is plugged into the NMEA out. So do i select NMEA 0183 instead of B&G for the expedition instruments?

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Yes - or B&G Hydra, although the baud rate is probably 4800 if from the NMEA port.

Probably the RS232 or USB ports are probably better for the computer though.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

If you can’t find a cable or can get one made for you, it is not too hard to do one on your own. A RS-232 USB pigtail in one end and a Phoenix contact (part number 1501252) on the other end.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Hi
I use this cable with H3000 for RS232 connectivity
https://www.conrad.com/p/te-connectivity-1-2273008-1-sensoractuator-connector-pre-fab-m8-plug-right-angle-150-m-no-of-pins-rj-3-1-pcs-1708075
For RS232 to USB i connect it to
https://www.actisense.com/products/usg-2-nmea-0183-converter
The cable is unshielded so i put the usbconverter next to the h3000 cpu.
