it doesn't have an option "default." it does have a user defined log folder which is checked. If i uncheck it will it automatically go to default or do I need to manually redirect?

Yes, uncheck it - the default is not to have a user defined folder.

Nick, Thanks for your help. I unchecked the box.
Now that you know I had checked the user defined folder box and it pointed to Program Files (86), do i need to be concerned about all the subdirectories like charts, config, instruments, polars, S57, S63, sails, Stripchart, Tides and then lots of individual files which reside in that directory? If there are data files in this directory do I need to move them to the new location?

No - do not move any of the installed files and directories from program files or you may/will break Expedition.
Expedition won't have written anything to it.
