Hi Nick,
Hi forum,
I am hoping for some clarification about distances to line in the pre-start.
Expedition has a number of channels:
- Start distance below line
Is this: The distance on target TWA to the line? Based on held TWD?
- Start distance to line
Is this the direct distance from the boat to the line no matter what course, TWA, etc.?
- Start distance to line reach
This one is described as "Distance to the line at current heading based on the start polar."What role does the start polar play in this.
- The start display shows "Below line" which one of the above is it??
Cheers

1. Distance below is the perpendicular distance to the line - the distance below the line.
2. Start distance to the line is the sailed distance, so may include turns etc. You can tell Exp what to use for the Start time (and distance) to line.
3. Reach distance is the distance to the line continuing what you are doing.
The distance below the line is the distance below the line as in #1 above.

Thanks Nick as always for the quick reply.
What exactly do you mean by:

Oh, yes, in settings I can select what to show on the start display. Is it that what you meant?
Is it correct to assume that all the start times are based on current BSP + acceleration + target BSP to line?

At the bottom of the options in Racing settings - Start time to line options.
Yes, also, heading, set, drift and the acceleration & braking cal values.

Would it be possible to add in the starting display a "+" or "-" in front of the bias for right or left favor of the line? It's easy to see calc from the numbers, but would be easier when it's getting hectic and the wind shifts a lot.
