I have had an inquiry from a boat equipped with Signet SmartPak about the possibility of using Expedition.
Anyone know if that hardware will work with Exp based on actual experience? SmartPak has an RS232 and a NMEA 0183 port.

If it has NMEA 0183 output (and optionally input) it should work with Expedition.

It should. I see the SL425 sends NMEA 0183.
I couldn't find a manual for the SL425 though.
The web site suggests it has NMEA 0183 and RS232 ports. I don't know what the RS232 port sends.

In the interest of expanding the joy of Expeditioning, I plan to help explore the facts on the ground, so to speak.
Stay tuned.

I have a log file of the output from the Signet 425 that seems to contain the correct NMEA sentences to show wind data and more. Neither strip chart nor number boxes will show the data stream. I'm pasting in the data stream with the question of what do I do next to get Expedition to display data. Lost here!! TIA, pjl data follows:

Some have no checksums, for example
$IIVWT,156,L,10.4,N,,,,
You can tell Exp not to require checksums.

Great idea, but no charm. The output we are using is from the RS232 port which was easily available. Another port is labeled 0183, but it requires a wiring project. so will try that as the next step.
The road of progress is..... more work>

The Signet 425 (I think) receives NMEA 0183 v1.5 data from a connected GPS that displays on the system devices. Can anyone speculate on the possibility of Expedition transmitting data (mark range and bearing, for example) on this connection and having it read by the Signet?
In other words (I think!!), what is the DB9 pin that carries the transmit signal from the computer serial cable?
TIA, pjl

Pins 2,3 & 5. There should be a description in the Exp help.

Thx, that's the next project to c if this old system can function in the modern world.
