Hi,
I'm doing my data budget for the PacCup coming up.
How big are the YellowBrick updates expedition pulls down for a race this sized?
Or even better on a per boat size - I can do maths - or more accurately I can have Excel do the maths for me.
Cheers,
Will

Looking back to Sydney-Noumea, a small fleet of around 15-20 boats, 6 KB or so per YB position download. If size in an issue, download less frequently, every 5 minutes on a 600 mile race hardly adds to veracity. To the best of my knowledge you cannot select boat positions to download, only to display.

Anyone looking for a formula for the upper bound where n is the number of boats:n * (34 + (1 * n) + (1 * (n-9)) + (1 * (n-99)) + 3*2 This assumes 8 digits for latitude and 10 digits for longitude. Depending on location this could be less due to fewer characters in the location field. - so this is the max file size for a give number of boats.

C-600 files were about 4kb each - ~100 boats
that was via email attachment.., so there was also the overhead of the email - both the request, and the response. I would guess the total is 10-15Kb
i assume there is some overhead associated with a request through the expedition interface, but my guess is it's less - perhaps Nick could comment on that...
I only use email requests when i am constrained to use Iridium Go, or handset. When I have FBB, I use expedition, and don't worry about the data quantity.
