A few people have recently had a C-Map error after updating C-Map 4D charts.
Downloading WD303 More free Base maps is ok once, but I can replicate this by telling C-Map to update the WD303 More free Base maps option. Obviously updating it from MyMaps is not a good idea at present.
This is a fix from C-Map (for Windows Services, type services at the Windows start menu):
In order to restore the application you could try to follow these steps:
1. Stop the C-Map Manager Service (see below)
2. Within the folder C:\ProgramData\C-MAP\MapsManager delete the files:
WWD303.conf
WWD303.conf.bak
bkmngmt.config
3. Restart the C-Map Manager Service (see below)
4. Restart Expedition
5. Download the WWD303 background
6. DON’T UPDATE THE WWB WHEN PROPOSED!!!
To stop and restart the C-Map Manager Service:
1. Click on the Windows icon on Windows' taskbar and type
services
2. An option for the Services desktop app will appear. Select it.
3. Scroll down and select 'C-Map Maps Manager'
4. Click 'Stop the service'
...
5. To restart the service, just click 'Restart the service'
Also, make sure you have installed Maps Manager 2.16.7. It should update itself, but it is a good idea to manually install 2.27.0.26 form the Exp download web page. I don't know if one can just install 2.27.0.26

Hi Nick
Yesterday I tried to update a chart, and this problem happened.
Maybe stupid questions; but where can I find the C-map manager service, if it is in Expedition I can not get to that, because the error occurs at the very beginning.
In the folder you mention I only see bkmngmt.config The other two are not there. I deleted the bkmngmt.config. But same problem starting Expedition.
The WWD03 background must be downloaded from Mymaps?
Sorry for these stupid questions, but I really need expedition and nothing works at the moment

Click on the Windows icon on Windows' taskbar and type
services
An option for the Services desktop app will appear. Select it.
Then, scroll down and select 'C-Map Maps Manager'
Click 'Stop the service'
To restart the service, just click 'Restart the service'
You will need to stop the service before deleting bkmngmt.config.
Yes, WWD303 can be downloaded from My maps.

THANKS!
Expedition works. But I know get the message that my chart is obsolete. I am afraid if I update it the same way, I will have the same problem. So how to update if it doesn't work within expedition, charts, my maps?
Thanks again (i normally work on apple, and not used to windows at all)

It is more a question for C-Map, but you could try installing the extra base maps then updating.

Pity, doesn't work. I understand it is a Cmap problem, so will check on them
Thanks for your help again!!

What is the chart area? It could be worth trying the above procedure, but also deleting/moving the .conf files for it

Hi,
tried updating yesterday and have the same issue since. The above fix doesn't work for me; I don't have any of the 3 files listed in my MapsManager folder...
I tried stopping the service, but then expedition hangs upon startup.. Where do I find the .conf files for the chart area? There's nothing in the Mapsmanager folder that seems close... Area is NW European coastlines...
Will chase CMAP for this, too, but hope to find a solution asap as we'll be sailing tomorrow...
--------------------------
Made it work by doing a variation of rebooting and killing the service a few times... Leaving this up here for reference only... Thanks for having this workaround available!

Just a reminder this can fix broken C-Map 4D chart systems for other areas too.
We just had a case for Queensland that required similar steps.
In this case, we deleted
AU-D010.conf
AU-D010.conf.bak
bkmngmt.config
The steps were:
1. Open Windows' Services (eg by Typing Services at Windows Start menu).
2. Right-click on the 'C-Map Maps Manager' service and Stop it.
3. Delete the above (or similar) *.conf, *.conf.bak and *.config files from the C-Map data folder
This is normally C:\ProgramData\C-MAP\MapsManager.
4. Restart the 'C-Map Maps Manager' service.
5. Go to C-Map My Maps in Expedition and select to Download the desired chart areas. This should be quick as they should already be downloaded.
