"Use instrument wind for Optimal Routing"; we sometimes use this feature if actual wind differs from the forecast. For what period of time is instrument wind used and when does expedition start using the GRIB info again?

Use instrument windThis lets you start the optimal routing calculation using your damped instrument windinstead of the wind from the Grib file. The utility of this feature is still under reviewand it isn't often used. The default is to leave this check box empty.
