B&G H3000 interfacing

I just bought a yacht with a recently updated on-board pc (from 32 megasomething to 64 somethings)
If I understand it correctly, I need a new driver for the H3000 performance processor to the USB-connection to work, but it seems that B&G never got around to make it.
So what do you suggest the best solution is?
Use the old Nmea in and out connectors at the CPU? With an Actisense adaptor?
(But do I loose all the nice H3000 features in Expedition?)
Downgrade the DIgital Yacht PC back to 32megasomethings again?
Any help is  appreciated.

Morten

Is this not the driver you need ?

For the PC update  - did you upgrade form a 32 Bit Operating System (Windows) to 64 Bit?  This B&G driver may only be 32 bit.  Did you have some reason for using 64 Bit Windows - if not then consider downgrading to 32 bit.

Yes 64 bit is the word for it, but the drivers from B&G are only woking on 32 bits..
The PC was updated just before I got the yacht and I wasn't to keen on stepping down to 32 again.
I guess the question should be; is it worth the hassle?

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

You could use the RS232 port on the H3000

Much easier to configure the H3000 to use the RS232 port as opposed to the USB one (need a new cable to connect, and a dip switch on the PCB - in the manual) and use a serial to USB adapter on the laptop...

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Thanks guys!
I'll go for the reconfiguring of the CPU to RS232.
And then it's just a matter of getting the cable googled from somewhere.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

You need a special cable from B&G. I got one from Farallon.info@farallon.us
I hear they are getting scarce. You also need a to put a RS232 connector on the end of the cable, then a RS232 to USB converter if you dont have RS232 plug on your laptop. (probally don't) You also need to change a jumper inside the H 3000 CPU Box. (real easy)
I just went thru this on my system. Works great, you just have make sure the cable is plugged in before you boot your computer so that the converter driver loads.
I have a spare B&G cable still in the bag if you cannot find one.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

Hi,

Using the RS232 cable, did you set the COM port in Expedition to HLINK H3000?   What baud rates did you set on the laptop com port??

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

It is probably 115k. The H3000 can send either NMEA or HLink over it.

Re: B&G H3000 interfacing

I could only get 0183 out of the com cable, by selecting in Expedition "H3000/5000" on COM port, but nothing useable using "H3000/5000 HLink"
I found an H3000 manual that implies that only the "Hercules Performance" software option gives HLink - I found a "system version" in the menu of this installation and it said Hydra.  I am assuming if this was Hercules Perf it would say so on the B&G display in System version??  My understanding is only can get 0183 out of this unit then, not HLink unless the software version is upgraded.

Does this sound correct?
