AWA keeps showing 180, but B&G sensor not showing it

I have Garmin displays and have a custom channel set up where Expedition sends AWA upwind and TWA reaching and downwind.  AWA out of expedition keeps showing 180 randomly within the data.  I sought to confirm whether this was a sensor issue.  I'm sitting at dock with wind at around 175 TWA.  I change the offset on the wand by about 100 degrees.  Sensor doesn't ever show 180, but Expedition AWA does.  Have a video showing side-by-side here:

I know that this data isn't being used to drive the AP--that data comes from the B&G wand directly.  But it's still annoying when I'm driving.  This only started happening this season (and I replaced B&G WS710 chip last season.  So not sure if this is something in one of the recent updates or whether there is something I can do to fix this in settings.  E.g., I know I can use damping, which I should be doing anyways.

Thanks, as always,

Josh

My first guess is that there is another AWA source. Do you also have a NMEA connection?

Re: AWA keeps showing 180, but B&G sensor not showing it

I have 2 wind instruments.  Both connected to N2K network.  Source for measured wind in h5000 cpu is the primary wand.

This is the instrument showing used for AWA.  I know this because when I changed offset for wand, AWA in expedition changed by 100 deg.  I’ve experienced the random 180 sailing close hauled.  So even if other instrument was somehow inducing the AWA error, both wands are showing upwind angles when sailing upwind.

Sorry…I might not know what you’re asking.  If you’re asking about instrument connections to NMEA, I have an Actisense NGT-1 on com 6.

And I just noticed that all N2K sources are set to all.

So maybe that’s the issue?  I selected the primary wand for both true and apparent wind.  And that seemed to fix the issue.  Now I suppose I need to select the right instrument for the other PGNs.

Does that sound right?

Re: AWA keeps showing 180, but B&G sensor not showing it

It sounds as if you were getting wind from multiple sources.

You should only select to receive the data from the NMEA connection you want.

Just deselect the PGNs you don't want.

Copy.  Thx.  That was an easier fix than I anticipated.  User error.

Re: AWA keeps showing 180, but B&G sensor not showing it

FYI.The origin of these windvalues come from the h5000 cpu's b&g wand connection. If not used, this will 'pollute' the nmea0183 wind output of the CPU.

So, in other words, perhaps disconnect the second wand connection from the network until
needed.
