Autopilot-Expedition

I’m an old‑school autopilot user — I’ve always created the route on the plotter and then activated it there. But now I’m trying to find a reliable way to use NAV mode (waypoint mode) directly from Expedition, and I can’t find any documentation explaining how Expedition manages this. Ideally, I’d like to run the autopilot with the plotter turned off.Are waypoints and routes sent to the autopilot only once?Does the autopilot automatically step to the next waypoint in sequence? What are the correct steps?Do you simply activate a route in Expedition and send it to the instruments — and that’s it?Or does Expedition need to continuously update the next mark, and so on?

Re: Autopilot-Expedition

It has been my experience that the active mark (active waypoint) needs to be sent every ~20 seconds at most or the information becomes obsolete and dropped. The pilots I have tried are NKE, B&G, Exocet, and MadBrain. At one point, there was a way to do this in both NMEA0183-2K but I beleive it is not longer there.
It would be great if this funtionality came back.

Re: Autopilot-Expedition

We have an option under Marks → Exchange → Send to Instruments. In the pop‑up window you can choose how you want to send the active route (Ethernet, COM1… whatever is connected to the EXP).What I don’t know is whether this information is sent only once, or if it is continuously transmitted to the instruments as needed for everything to work properly. The same question applies to XTE and other data. For example, if you move the active mark… or when your active route pass to the next mark..... do you have to be using send to instruments option?...

Re: Autopilot-Expedition

That button only sends it once.

The data sent regularly is as selected in the NMEA 0183 or 2000 Exp settings.

Re: Autopilot-Expedition

Thank you Nick. It appears that in the NMEA0183, if we click the send "RTE WPT" button only sends them once. The autopilots I mentioned will drop the values in ~15-20 secs. In the past you had a check to enable recurrent updates, which did send RTE and WPT every ~5secs
I do not see them here
