Expedition Navigation Software

This is a significant update.
Expedition now supports the excellent C-Map Discover X and Reveal X charts
X-Charts are the replacement for 4D and MAX charting.
The C-Map X-Chart Manager app is used to purchase, download and update charts. See links on the Expedition web site and at
The old 32 bit Expedition for MAX has finally been retired.

Thank you. How about the non-X Discover and Reveal charts? Are these rebranded 4D charts, or also a new format?
Offline
They are all called Discover X or Reveal X. Reveal adds satellite, shaded relief etc layers.
The ENC and bathymetry layers will be useful I think.
Reveal and Discover are older, designed for older plotters.
4D is also a legacy format.

This is C-Map summary of their current charts offerings although it doesn't flag which third party ECDISs are supported

No ECDIS involved.
These are the ENCs, I think via IC-ENC.

Thanks Nick,
I have a selection of 4D charts which I need to update at cost. Is this the time to move on to the new 'X' versions?
I guess I would need to download the new Expedition X and C-Maps X charts manager and then purchase the charts I need.
Will I need to remove Exp 4D or can this continue to live in parallel with the new Exp X?

You don't need to migrate yet. The last 4D chart update is scheduled for March 2027. C-Map support is supposed to end a year later.
You can have as many Expedition variants installed as you wish.

This look very interesting. I’d avoided the switch to Navionics as I like using the raster layer in the 4D charts for pilotage, but the ENC view might be the long term answer there. Does this overcome the limitation on 4k displays, or has that gone anyway?

Yes, the maximum display size was only a 4D limitation.
