Expedition Navigation Software
Online!
Hi All,
I am being challenged by one of those 'well it worked last time" situations!
I have a B&G Edge & NGX-1 that are connected to a USB Hub and then to my laptop via a single USB-C cable. The NGX-1 sends AIS data, and is working fine in Exp, however I cannot get the data from the Edge in Exp. I can connect to the B&G Edge and see all the data via the web interface using its IP address in the browser (everything fine here), but not in Exp.
I've checked & installed software updates, done a couple of reboots, checked IP address in Exp, PIN number etc. but without success.
Can anyone offer any other hints for things to try? As mentioned, everything was connecting and working fine, and now it's not!!

Check all Com port settings used by Edge, Pc and Expedition.

Thanks @NoRay,
I've looked at the settings and nothing jumps out at me as potential causes of this problem. Is there anything specific that I should be looking for?
I think I may have done something to the 'Network 0' configuration in Exp as:
1) The NGX-1 AIS data is working in Exp perfectly.
2) The B&G Edge is connected to the laptop and the web interface is working perfectly.
This make me believe it is the Edge -> Exp that I have messed up somehow...

It will either be your connection settings or (eg) firewall.
Also check if the connection page in Exp says whether the connection is open or closed. You can also look at the raw data window.

Thanks Nick,
I've checked firewall and, interestingly, it was allowing Expedition to communication via a Public network, but not Private. I've changed this to allow both now, so maybe this will solve it?
Any ideas for other connection settings that would only impact on Exp?
I checked the connection status when I was onboard & connected and it was mostly closed. On a couple of occasions it was open, but this didn't seem to enable the data to flow, and the next time I looked it was closed again. Raw data never appeared...
Quick question - what should the port be set to? It currently is 5010.

I think the default is 2053.
You should look at the Exp help and also your B&G manual. The B&G manual will explain how to see the port on a GFD.

Thanks again Nick!
I've changed the port to 2053 in Exp (I'd missed this in the help) and I've validated the address using the Triton's on the boat. It's the same as the ip address that works on the web browser, so I'm pretty sure this correct. The B&G manual is pretty thin on any more fault finding hints, and the fact it's working on the web interface suggests it's connecting to the laptop ok.
I'm back on the boat in a couple of days so I'll see if it works in Exp now ![]()

Exp will automatically select port 2053 when you select B&G Websocket as the instrument type.

Back on board and I still can't get the N2K data from the Edge into Exp
After connecting the USB to the laptop, the AIS data (via the NGX-1) appears immediately but no N2K data, which would normally come from the Edge via Network 0.
When I click on Instruments and the connection box pops up, it shows Network 0 is Open, but nothing visible in Raw Data. When I click on Reconnect, the connection changes to 'Closed'.
Throughout this, I can always access the Edge (using the USB-C connection) via the Web Interface.
Does anyone have any ideas on the next steps I could try?
Merry Christmas btw! ![]()
PS. Happy to share any settings / configurations that would help figuring this out...

I don't understand the reference to NMEA 2000.
Aren't you connecting to the B&G Websocket?
Maybe try sharing your settings in Exp. Also try disabling the PIN?
