Actisense NGT-1 connection stability
Over the last few releases I've had a number of stability issues with my connection to the boat's N2K network via my NGT-1. I use it primarily for GPS and AIS data, with instrument data via H-Link to my ancient H2000. Historically it's been totally stable but recently it has worked fine in harbour but after about 30 minutes of movement drops the connection to expedition. The reconnect instruments button works, but only for another 20 mins or so. I've given up on it for now as it's been so unstable and used the data via TCP from my Vesper AIS which works, but has several limitations.
I've tried the system restore options and am currently running 12.4.12.

It could be a range of things.
My first guess would be a faulty USB connection etc, but it could also be a fault in the device or connection to the NMEA network.
It would be worth checking the Actisense driver on the computer is up to date and that the device's firmware is also up to date.

I'd updated the devices firmware about a week before the trouble started. I've now installed the latest drivers too and will see if that helps. My sense is its software - aside from all else the device reconnects when you hit the button, and the NGT-1's reported uptime in the UI is consistent with it being up all the time. It stopped the first time during my first passage of the chenal du four, of course :-). The N2K bus is happy - other devices are using the data from it without reporting any issues.

I think it is mostly likely to be a physical connector, wiring or device issue.

Unsurprisingly you were right. I'd updated the firmware on the NGT to 2.690 from 2.210. Actisense support explained how to move back to the older firmware - you've got to pull the USB at the right moment at reapplying the current firmware to leave it with only the bootloader and can then load an earlier version. Now back on the old version and the connection to Exp has been stable. Don't know if it was an issue with my (old) hardware and the later firmware, just a failed firmware install or a compatibility issue between 2.690 and Exp but on this boat it's all working again with 2.210 installed and I'll be sticking there!
