You are not understanding Actisense correctly. You are only temporarily setting the baud rate.
Please re-read the above post.
If you set it in the NMEA reader hardware configuration window, it will program the eeprom in the NGX to whatever you select. Permanently.
This is NOT the same as selecting the baud rate at the top of NMEA Reader.
There is nothing to look into. Just set the baud rate as suggested and it will be permanent.

I think you need to use toolkit to change the NGX
nmea reader is a simpler program just for looking at the data, I don't think it will change the base setting of the NGX
No experience with the NGX, I have a few NGTs

It can be done with NMEA reader, as detailed above.

Thanks @Nick & @RocketScott, and sorry for making this like hard work!
I have tried every option I could find to permanently set the NGX in Transfer mode, before reaching out to Actisense & this forum for advice.
@Nick- Just to check we are talking about the same thing, the image below shows the section of the NMEA Reader software that I have been using (amongst others) to configure the NGX. Is this the same NMEA Reader Configuration Window you are referring to? If so, then I am 99% sure I have tried this already and, on the next power cycle, it has defaulted back to Convert mode.
I'm not at the boat today, but I will test this again when I am to be sure.

You haven't selected the baud rate in that image ...

I'm not at the boat, so not connected to the N2K network.
When I am connected it populates the various fields on this screen from the NGX-1. I'll be there at the weekend, so if this is the screen you are referring to I'll use this to switch it to 'Transfer' at 115k, and then see if this configuration remains after a power cycle.

Don't forget the apply button ...

I'm glad I allowed a small % chance that I hadn't done something correctly with the Hardware Config tab previously!
At the boat this weekend, and connected the laptop to the N2K network as normal. I used the NMEA Reader to access the NGX-1, and noticed that this time it connected at 115k instead of the 4800 it normally defaults to. It was still in 'Convert' mode, so I switched it to 'Transfer' & clicked Apply. I then closed the port, exited the NMEA Reader and opened Exp. It worked straight away.
We then were off sailing, so I left it running like this for the rest of the day. Then, when back on the dock, I closed Exp, and cycled the power to the N2K network / NGX-1. I then opened Exp and it connected to the B&G and NGX perfectly, without any NMEA Reader use!
I didn't get chance to play any more, but I wanted to share this update and positive development! Hopefully it'll work next time and you were correct Nick! Thanks!!

Just to close this out with a big thanks to Nick!
Despite some contrary advice from the Actisense support, setting the NGX-1 up via the Hardware Config tab has resulted in the device starting up in Transfer mode at 115k every time.
That's one less reason to wake me up off-watch in the event of someone switching the instruments off by mistake!
