Hi folks - very new here, so struggling with documentation - please be gentle!
I'm using E/Navionics v12.3.9
From what I can tell, there are two different formats for the crossover chart ("sail chart") - a .txt files which is a space-separated table and an XML file that uses the top level element <crossoverchart>. However, when read into Expedition, the text file view is really a pure table and cannot be converted into the XML file format which seems to present only as a graphical view with bezier points for the shapes.
1. Question: Is it possible to convert trivially between the two?
2. Bug? When my sail list is empty and I open a TXT sailchart, all cells are black. It appears the default behaviour is to create a list of sails but assign them all with the same colour. I go to the sail list, 'auto-colour' them, hit okay, and nothing changes. I think this is a bug. Once I fiddle more with the table, the colours spring into life.
3. Feature request: If I'd like to make a feature request (auto-colour new entries added to the sail list) where is the best place to do that?
4. Q: Which format is generally recommended? I'm starting to build out my own crossover, and it seems like being able to overlap is useful, so the XML format seems preferable to me, but I'd love to hear from experts.
5. Q: How do I delete entries from the sail list? (I can not add any entries using the "+" icon in the toolbar, but I understand that is a known bug from reading elsewhere on this forum.) There is an "Add" button in the Sail List, but no "Remove" button...
I hacked this myself with an SQLite editor, but it seems like a terrible idea...
6. Q: What are the black semi-vertical lines displayed in the TXT and XML viewer?
7: Q/Feature request: Is it possible to switch and invert the axes? My North crossover charts all present TWS as the x-axis and TWA as the Y-axis (with 0 at the top and 180 at the bottom) so translating these is making my head spin. It would be lovely to be able to set a preferred view.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
greg

Unless I'm mistaken to really use the XML format you need to pay for:

I use the Sailing Performance crossover chart. I find this much easier.
You can add with the + button, and then right click the sail to edit it or delete it.
It is much easier to do this in the full version of crossover chart, but I understand that comes with a cost.
As far as swapping between the Sailing Performance one and Expedition one I see no need for this. Once you create your chart its easy to edit and modify.

Definitely the xml format is preferred by most. The simple grid format is somewhat from a by-gone age.
The XML format is from Sailing Performance. Expedition does offer limited editing functionality, but their app is more complete.
Answers to each question
1. It isn't possible to convert between the formats. They are just too different.
2. There is no colour information in the simple chart format, so they defualt to black.
3. There is a function to auto-colour once loaded.
4. As above and in above posts.
5. By coincidence, the next update has the ability to delete sails. It checks to see if they are used by events, tests etc first.
6. They could be the targets?
7. It isn't possible. I would prefer to eave it the same as polars etc. Every sail chart I ever dealt with has tws on the y axis, although I have seen excel spreadsheets from North the other way.

Thanks all!
Nick, to be clear - the bug with the sail list is not that they all start as black, it is that after selecting auto-colour then Okay, they _still_ present as black. Some other activity (mouse clicks?) is necessary to get the chart to refresh and then the colours take effect.
I've attached a cross over chart (PDF) that North provides - just for information. I've only seen them from North and Adrena (which will show both cartesian and polar representations) hence my question.
Cheers,
greg
PS - can't attach images to this post. That makes things tricky. Starting to feel like I stepped into a time machine!

Hi Greg,
If you want a trial license of the sailing performance crossover chart, send me an email lockie@sailingperformance.com.
Campbell has an expedition utility that allows crossover chat to read the data from expedition and will give you your recommend sail at the next mark. Its simlar to how it works in expediton but I find it is clearer in the crossover chart software.

Your silmaker should be able to offer you a copy in the XML format, can be imported directly to Expedition.
