Re: Yacht Devices YDNR-02 Wifi n2k - is it stable

I started using the YDW-02 and found that it would stop working for random periods and then start working again. I swapped it for a replacement unit and found the same behavior.   Then I got the NGT-1 and found it to be quite a bit more reliable, but it still goes out randomly.  When it is out I usually can see the raw data just like Graham, but there is nothing I can do to get it to display.

The NGT and now NGX are probably the most commonly used.

Anotehr option I like is the Digital Yacht iKonvert. One nice thing is that it doesn't rely on the Actisense dll.

Yacht devices was working with Expedition 11. Now not working with V12.0.19.  I can see the raw data entering Expedition using the TCP option, but data is not displaying in Expedition chart, boxes, or strip charts.Any advice?

So, today I just ran into the same issue with Exp V12.0.20 on a new machine.  I've been testing a Yacht Device wifi gateway which worked well under Exp V11..... but now does not display boat position data or other.  I see the sentences under raw data but no graphic for boat position or data in number boxes.

Yacht Devices RAW checked.  Correct ip address (obviously!) and correct PGN's, double checked against my other machine.  BTW, I'm using UDP connection, which seems to be the default setting.

I have to test the other machine on the boat to see if I am missing something in Windows (which would not be a surprise!).  But, came here to check as well.

For peace of mind, I just tested with a Yacht Devices USB gateway and all was ok with RAW data.

I am suprised so many people are able to get YD devices with the sanctions.

I am still having issues displaying boat position and number box data with the YD wifi gateway for NMEA2000.  I see the raw data.  Has anyone figured out a fix for this?

That is NMEA 0183 not 2000 data.

Re: Yacht Devices YDNR-02 Wifi n2k - is it stable

The device is set up for both 0183 and RAW data.

I got it working today.  Settings n the YD connection page;

Network protocol: UDP.  Data Protocol: RAW.  Port 1456.  Direction: Both.

If you are going to get a wireless gateway, make 100% sure that your bus is running at less than 35% and that you black list as much as possible at the gateway, especially if you have a processor.
Not doing so will guarantee that you will have fast packet errors and it is not good.
All these wireless adapters do not know enough compute to handle workloads that are over 35%, I have tested all of them and none are very reliable,
In the case of Yacht Devices, I block everything that is over 10Hz, and still now and then I get errors introduced by it.

Oh - very interesting!
Actually - we tried out the Actisense W2K-1 - not as unstable as the others... but eventually it just stops. And when the Actisense stops you will have to pull the power - not nice during a race if you have installed it behind the cabinet ;-)
your hint about the traffic congestion makes totally sense.

So far the most stable setup I have worked with was a sailmon connected to N2K and a ethernet cable to the wireless router - never had a single breakdown. Only downside - sailmon's are not cheap...

So I was wondering - we are looking into a B&G Hercules based setup - does it have a direct Expedition gateway setup?
