Technical Q&A » H5000 polar upload - CSV file format » 8/06/2024 5:47 pm |
I want to make my B&G and Expedition polars the same. I can upload a CSV file to B&G.
Anyone know the data format in the file - header row, LHS column, etc?
Technical Q&A » Output AIS SOG & COG of other boat » 4/27/2024 8:01 pm |
Thankyou! I am using websocket.
A bit embarrassing really. I had looked at the pane where you assign SOG to a boat, but the column with 'Boat' was 'minimised' so I couldnt read it. Once you pointed it out - BINGO! Your screenshot made it obvious! LoL
Once again - many thanks!

I have the boat mapped to an ID and can map its SOG and COG to the number boxes, but cant see how to map it to an external channel (I can only select my own SOG and COG in Alternating or Channels?)
Any step by step would be appreciated

I can get other boats data to display in Number Boxes.
Is there a way to get this information into an external channel so I can display this on the B&G H5000 system?

Technical Q&A » Ping a startline » 4/21/2024 6:33 pm |
Best practice is to approach the line on close hauled, with bow calling the cross.
So, assume settings in EXP have the GPS at the stern (lets say 16m from the bow). So when the mark is pinged its at the bow - 16m further forward at the current HDG (or COG)?
Once both marks are pinged, then I assume EXP calculates the 'distance to the line' as the distance straight ahead, not perpendicular to the line - is it based on HDG or COG?
Would be grateful to understand the inputs and geometry for peace of mind please

H5000 Websocket to EXP / King40 with k=10 / Set & drift calculated in EXP
I have swung the compass and am fine tuning SOG and BSP, but I am still getting a reasonable amount of Set & Drift (arrows on boat track)
Q. Is this a K value issue?
Q. How do I 'calibrate' the K value - what are the symptoms of too high or too low? (Does it matter?)
Many thanks
Questions about Expedition features » Comparing polars with actual data from log files » 11/12/2023 6:17 pm |
I have both log files and 'cleaned' log file reports (with constant phases extracted using Tools).
What is the best way to overlay this data and see how close the actuals are with the polars?
General Discussion » Nav station setup » 6/06/2023 12:35 am |
Would any users be prepared to share photos of their nav station layout/setup?
I am sailing on a Fast 40+ where the nav station (laptop location) is on top of the engine box and it 'tacks' manually with the navigator sitting in the bilge.
We are looking to put blinds up around the station to stop/limit water splashing.
Would welcome any advice/photos/ideas, etc about blinds, 'tacking arms', etc

I have just finished 4 long races on a wet TP52, including S2H22. Toughbook downstairs and ipads in waterproof case upstairs running Remote Desktop over WiFi (with one on charge downstairs and the other in use on deck). I have also used Mesa2 and 3.
1. iPad lasts about 4hrs, but you have to turn the screen way down in brighness and turn it off when not using
2. iPad daylight vision is poor
3. Water, spray, rain and oil in your fingers kills the iPad screen - its like a million fingers trying to do something all at once. I have a microfibre cloth during day races and a chamois for when it gets a bit wetter, but when its tough going its almost impossible - dry with a chamois and you leave a thin film of water and that kills the screen as well.
4. I have tried the Mesa's but the OS is a a bit clunky and they are a bit too small for me. There is a PRO coming out and they are aiming for IP67, but not there yet (not to mention the price)
5. I do use a stylus at times, but when the screen gets wet its not good.
I am looking for a way to use the iPad in the wet (hyrdophobic/phylic film), stylus only (havent cracked that one yet), apple pencil, other brnads (GETAC, etc)?
Anyone got the answer?
