I understand that the license for C Map X is for one year of downloading and updating.

But, if the charts are still on my laptop, will they still work when the year is up?

I am thinking about getting some charts from chartworld, but i am not sure how to create what they call the installation.

it asks for  a hardware id, and it says this is from the software that will use the enc charts.

so, is my hardware id my expedition license?

sorry, i wasn't clear - i meant the b&g h5000 manual. They have examples near the end of the manual.

I understand that we have to calibrate by collecting data - but if the TWA table is all zeros, that's going to take time, and i need to wait for the specific wind conditions - i can't get calibration factors for the 20kt column, until i get to sail in 20kts.

my question is; is it better to just leave everything at zero, until i can do some tacks in 20kts, or should I start with the values from that table in the B&G manual?

Is the Example table in the manual meant to be a reasonable starting point for TWA calibration?

If you got on a boat with all zeros in the table, would you put those values in, figuring it would probably be better than the zeros?

If not, what would you use?

not that i remember...

but as to  the general question: one should be able to just plug ethernet from an H5000 into any router, and access the websocket from a browser, without any other hardware, or confiburation changes to the H5000 - right?

yes - that is the IP# i use to access the H5000 websocket over the gofree.

But it doesn't work when i plug the ethernet cable into my laptop or into the mini router.

To be clear - I am taking the cable that goes from the H5000 to the GoFree, and redirecting it; either directly to a laptop, or to  my mini router.

192.169.0.2 works fine over gofree.

no  - i did not do any configuration of the H5000.

i guess i figured there wasn't much difference between the gofree, were it was plugged in, and a different router.

I have a mini router that I can use for VNC screen sharing of Expedition to a tablet.

I like this router, because it can also provide data to the laptop over the same network used for screensharing; either wirelessly by tethering an iphone, or plugging in an ethernet cable from Starlink.

But what I don't have, and would like, is access to the H5000 websocket over that same network- to do calibrations, for example.

Right now, the only way to access the H5000 websocket is to disconnect from the mini router, and connect to the B&G GoFree.

I tried plugging the cable that goes into the GoFree into my router - I have a B&G adapter that connects to the N2K plug on the cable into the GoFree, and has a regular RJ45 etehernet plug on the other end.

But I don't get anything over that - either through the mini router, or just plugged into the laptop.

How can I get the H5000 websocket available over my mini router?

You can use it to download MSB commanded positions, and update course/start if desired, else just show mark positions.

I forgot to ask; how does expedition get the positions? Is it over a regular internet connection?
