I used a CS4500 in 2014 to 2017 with great accuracy until it started to behave strange and soon after stopped working completely.
I went back to the Airmar standard paddlewheel although I miss the accuracy of the CS4500.
Btw. the power/signal interface box of the CS4500 did not work out of the box with my Tack-Tick. It needed some modifications.

Airmar has a new ultrasonic unit now, UST800/850 where they appear to have moved some of the signal processing out of the sensor into an interface box. Maybe this has improved reliability?
Anyone with experience of this new unit?

Technical Q&A » Wind barbs, currect vectors not drawn when loading a log. » 8/13/2023 4:46 am

When loading a log, no wind barbs or current vectors are drawn along the track although the corresponding
boxes have been checked under Setting/Track.

The barbs/vectors are however drawn if I playback a log.

This seems to me to be a new behavior since a couple of versions. Is it intended?

Technical Q&A » Setting of Distance units for "Ahead of Boat" number box. » 7/02/2023 12:47 am

Hi,
there is a drop down selection for which distance units to use for number box channel Ahead of Boat. (Default, Boat-lengths, meters, etc).
This does not seem to work and the number box seems to use the distance unit Boat Lengths regardless of setting.
For the channel Boat Rng setting different distance units seems to work however.

Technical Q&A » Channel "LayBrg °M" seems to display the bearing of the wrong LL? » 7/16/2022 7:03 am

LayBrg °M is supposed to return the bearing of the LL the boat is heading to, but seems to return the bearing of the LL it is not heading to.
Example, tested using the Exp Simultator.
1.Boat is sailing on port towards starboard LL of a windward mark.
2. TWD = 0°M
3. Boat is sailing course 40°M @ TargetTWA 40°.

Bearing of the starboard LL (Brg on S °M) in this case is 360-40=320°M.
Bearing of the port LL (Brg on P °M) in this case is 40°M.

As the boat is heading towards the starboard LL I would expect LayBrg °M to display 320°M. But it displays 40°M i.e the port LL.

Layline distance seems to work o.k. though. It correctly displays the distance to the LL the boat is heading towards.

Hi!
I tried to map this Exp channel to a B&G H2000/H3000 remote channel to display on an FFD after the start.

Problem seems to be that this data is only sent once at the gun, and as no further data update is coming, the FFD goes blank or OFF or something. Believe I tried to sent this data to Ventus too some (long) time ago and had the same problem. Data was only visible a few seconds.

It would be desirable that Start Gun Dist Below Line is resent regularly after the gun. Maybe once every two seconds or so.

Technical Q&A » Extract data between wands seems not to work as expected. » 7/15/2021 3:22 am

Hello,
I try to use the function Tools - Extract log data, to extract data between wands.
Settings:
Interval 0s (all data)
Output format: Expedition.
Between wands.

When I set two wands and extract, the new file contains data from the beginning of the original file to the 2nd wand.
I would expect it to contain data between the 1st and 2nd wand.

I believe this has worked for me until 2019 or so, but not any more since 2020.

Hello,
I have just upgraded to Exp v11.10.5 and have problems with for example ICON_DENMARK gribs that I download.
I can download fine, add the file in WxData>Settings>Weather data window. I can check the box that I want to use this model. So far so good.

But when I try to use the model nothing is visible. Meteogram is empty or rather cannot be opened at all.

When I go back into
WxData>Settings>Weather data window, the model has been automatically unchecked. I check it again and the whole thing repeats itself.
The check in the checkbox does not stick.

Same problem with BSH current forecasts.

Everything works fine with the EX_GFS_11_... model though.

I have tried exactly the same problematic Grib files (ICON_DENMARK and BSH)  with Exp v10.14.5 and there they work perfectly fine.

What is wrong?

For example I have a line with 5.7 boatlengths of bias to port.
In the number boy it is displayed 5.7p.

If I look at raw data on the Expedition interface channel I get the output:
129, -0.03
E.g Channel: 129.
Dta -0.03 (Nautical miles =5.9 BL for LOA 9.5m).
