GRIBs to use for long-range, long-distance, future planning

I'm sure this has been covered and I'm just not searching the forums for the right thing, but basically looking for advice on weather data source to use for future planning.  I've only ever used Exp for coastal stuff within forecast range.

Exact case is planning a Pacific crossing for next season.  Just want to run some simulations.  Would be great if I could pull up some sort of "seasonal weather GRIB" that just gave typical conditions for a given date range, and similar for current (although for the crossing we have in mind, current, um, current forecasts would probably be sufficient).

Seems like a well trodden path, what have others done?

thanks!

Pull the historical data from either GFS or ECWMF and use that to run a series of routes for the years you have pulled. This should help you understand the "average" conditions your are going to see.
