Predictwind Questions

Couple questions about Predictwind in Expedition:

1. How well does it work compared to other (open) sources for WX data?
2. Is it worth the subscription $?
3. Are any of you using PW to your advantage?
4. Most importantly: Does paying for a subscription to get PW wx data into Expedition violate RRS rule 41 which prohibits outside assistance?  I'm looking specifically towards the Chicago Mac race, which amends RRS 41 to state:

13.3 Rule 41(c) is replaced by: A boat shall notreceive help from any outside source, except(c) help in the form of information which isavailable on a public domain, free or by paidsubscription. This shall include navigational, weather, tide or current information fromany source which is readily available to allboats whether or not by payment of a fee orsubscription, but shall not include informationgathered or the subject of interpretation by, orany advice received from, any direct humaninput not on board the boat and which isspecific to the boat and its situation.By way of an example and interpretation, any publicly offered Internet weather data, forecasts, or cloud routing service available toall competitors, whether on a subscription orfree basis, is permitted. Permissible Internet-sourced weather data, forecasts, or cloudrouting services accessed by a boat whileracing must be computer-generated and freefrom any direct human input from off the boat.

Re: Predictwind Questions

As an aside --- with NOAA/NWS in a big question mark --- I expect rule 41 to be changed in the next version of the RRS to match the publicly available subscription model for all races. I think all the major offshore events now allow subscription services as long as they are generally available.
