Historic Grib data

Hello,
I'm searching for historic grib data.
With this data I'd like to run routings for a race with the weather of the past years.

I found this
https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-access/model-data/model-datasets/global-forcast-system-gfs
But as far as I can see I have to download each hour separately and I get the weather data for the whole world (>> lots of huge files).

I'd like to have the data as just one file for just a certain selected area.

In Adrena there is an extra function:
http://www.adrena-software.com/article/14-noaa-website-a-mine-of-data- a bit further down the page
But I don't own Adrena...

Any ideas?

Re: Historic Grib data

Have a look at

http://apps.ecmwf.int/datasets/

You can also download from NOAA Nomads as suggested above.

Re: Historic Grib data

Follow up question: Does something similar to the ECMWF historic weather gribs exist also for currents?

Re: Historic Grib data

You could look at MyOcean as a start, else RTOFS etc might be available
