Importing Currents

Hi,

Is there any way I can mass import current data into Expedition (including time and date).

I see the option in 'Tools' but have not successfully managed to use.

My current data comes as a CSV file as shown below.  Each row represents a single data point, with current data for the corresponding time.  The data points are repeated every 15 minutes.

Converting the Direction and Speed into Zonal and Medidonal values is easy enough.

As an observation,

Is there anything I can do with such a CSV, or should this post be in the 'Program Features Wishlist' section of the forum?

Thanks?

TC

Re: Importing Currents

The Tools function was for AOML currents. The format required is described in the Exp help

Re: Importing Currents

Many thanks for the reply.

I'm not familiar with the AOML data, and my research on them hasn't yielded much at all.  I can't find a sample file to copy!

I created a text (.txt) file with the format in the help manual.  Then I go through the steps, and invariably get to 'Import failed'.

I've tried a few different variations on the help file suggested format, but to no avail.

Would it be possible to point me to a sample file, which I could test with, and then recreate with my own data?

As I said, I have no problem splitting the direction and speed data into zonal and meridional speeds.

Thanks in advance.

Import currents
Allows a test file containing current data to be imported. For example, this allows the use of AOML analysis data.

Expedition will also ask for a file name to save the grib data to and a validity time.

The accepted format is:

Latitude Longitude Zonal meridional current speeds

57.77 -34.79 5.2 11.7

Current speeds are in cm/s.

Re: Importing Currents

There are just the 4 columns, confusingly not separated by commas.

latitude longtitude u component v component

eg:

57.77 -34.79 5.2 11.7

The line in your first post doesn't look like this

Re: Importing Currents

Thanks Nick,

Still no joy.

Sorry - I didn't explain it well.  The example in the first post was only to demonstrate that I had data.

However, I have tried to many times to import the exact help file example format.  I've tried other variations too.  Commas, no commas, tab, no tab, headers, no headers, txt, csv.

Nevermind, I'll sit on this for a while, and in meantime, see if I can find a sample AOML current file.  Maybe someone else will offer a suggestion.

Thanks for your time.
