Network connection broken after expedition 12.9.4 and 12.9.5 upgrade

Hi,

We have an expedition pc that was upgraded to 12.9.4 this week. First we experienced alot strange numbers in BSP and TWS plus more. BSP could jump to 600 knots while still beeing docked, a bit the same with wind speed. After expedition system restore, resetting expedition settings and instrurment setting, everything was normal again. but then our network connection with Expedition protocol at tcp port 5010 was gone. Tried to recreate it, but didn't get it to work. Ran netstat -a and could not find a 5010 listening port. before the reset i kept a copy of the net0.xml file. When i copied that back in again the strange numbers reapeared and the network connection still doesn't work. I notice also that the connection that was protocol expedition now say udp and not tcp and that the ip address field that was grayed out is now editable. I had to test this on another pc that was working and 12.9.1, i upgraded it to 12.9.5 and the network connection was broken and had changed from tcp to udp. I would really like to be able to downgrade to 12.9.2, but don't have the setup file. We are sailing a national championship i Norway on friday and i would be great to have it sorted before then.

Re: Network connection broken after expedition 12.9.4 and 12.9.5 upgrade

That is a little hard to follow, but if you want a tcp connection, why not select TCP and the desired address and port number.

Re: Network connection broken after expedition 12.9.4 and 12.9.5 upgrade

After upgrading to 12.9.5, setting up a new instrument network connection with type expedition tcp port 5010, ip addres blank or 127.0.0.1(in earlier version this ip address field was uneditable). When running the command netstat -a i should have seen that there is a listening port 5010 so that expedition is ready to accept a connection, but there is no line in the output showing that expedition is able to accept a connection to port 5010.

Before the upgrade, Expedition acted as a TCP server accepting incomming connection to port 5010. Now it acts as a TCP client.

Re: Network connection broken after expedition 12.9.4 and 12.9.5 upgrade

I have deleted the server option. It may return, but I haven't investigated the feasibility.

Generally UDP is best in marine apps I think.

You can get the old 12.9.2 at

https://www.expeditionmarine.com/downloads/old_tmp/ExpeditionSetup_12_9_2.exe

Re: Network connection broken after expedition 12.9.4 and 12.9.5 upgrade

Thank you. I have now reprogrammed my app ExpPinger to act as a server instead, so Expedition connects to it instead of the other way around. So the the network issue i had is fine now. I use the connection to send data to expedition, like:
- Line-end pings, port and starboard.
- Race timer: start with a set number of minutes, sync to the nearest minute, kill.
- Marks: advance to next, step back to previous, ping the active mark.
- Rounding-log entries written into Expedition's event log.

Another thing, could you verify if the variables Sail, SailMark and SailNext is working in 12.9.5? I cannot get it to display in number boxes.

Yes, they work here.
