NBR Optimization Tip

Optimization for NBR frustrating?
Sometimes an Optimization path takes a decidedly unattractive path due to a strong GS current. It might be technically accurate; but the risk to reward just won't let you try it.

The quick fix is to pick a “Point Alpha”. Navigators in the Bermuda Race have for many years picked their best guess for entering the Gulf Stream and labeled it 'Point Alpha'.

So, if the Optimization tells you to go 120 miles East of the R/L and you think thats 'nuts'; pick a Pt A and create a Mark for it on the screen (maybe 38 13.784n 069 47.120w). Right click on your mark and add it to your course. Rerun your Optimization and compare results.

Re: NBR Optimization Tip

NOAA has a new model that isn't quite live called RRFS.

I haven't added it to the Exp grib server yet, but Saildocs has it.

I made an updated config file to include it. Just replace the file installed with Exp with this one.
