No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

We use the Actisense W2K-1 to connect to our instruments and it used to work just fine with Win10. I upgraded the laptop to Win11 and Expedition to v12.7.16 and it partially stopped working. Expedition still reads and displays GPS (SOG, COG), AIS info and some other PGNs like depth, heel or temperature but no wind data.

I upgraded the W2K-1 to firmware v1.398 but still no luck. I confirmed that all the right PGNs are selected and reset it to default to make sure. I checked the defender firewall settings and tried it even with firewall turned off.

We also use NEMEAremote on an iPad and wind data is displayed. It uses the same data server. We use for both N2K ASCII with TCP protocol on port 60002. I can also see the raw data feed in Expedition.
Does anyone have any idea what I’m missing and may need to adjust on the w2k-1, in Win11 or Expedition?

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

A lot of NMEA 2000 networks don't have TWA, TWS or TWD.

If so, you need to tell Exp to calculate them. It needs BSP, HDG, AWA and AWS at a minimum.

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

I contacted Actisense about it. They don't think it is related the W2K-1 because NMEA 2000 data including AWA and AWS shows on the iPad that we connect to the same data server from the W2K-1.

We are missing AWA and AWS in Expedition. Turning on the calculation of TWS, TWA and TWD doesn't fix it. I know this problem sounds really weird because some data displays and others doesn't.

I'm not sure whether it helps to determine the root cause but at this link is an exportof the raw data from the instruments in Expedition.

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

Do you have Bsp and Hdg in Exp?

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

No,we don't have Bsp and Hdg either.  Can you access the raw data export in the link that I shared and would that or any other log help to determine what the issue might be?

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

That explains it. Exp needs bsp and hdg to calculate those.

I can see the data you linked about, but it would take a while to analyse it and see what is in it and this week is already very busy.

Make sure you have selected the relevant PGNs to be received in Exp.

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

Thank you Nick. Just to confirm we don't have AWS, AWA, BSP nor HDG. But have SOG, COG, AIS data, and other data like heel, trim, depth and SeaTemp.
I have selected all the relevant PGNs and reset selection to default because I also thought that might be the reason for it. I uploaded a couple screen prints of the PGN selection to the same folder that I linked.
We will race again this weekend and can provide additional logs or other information as needed. Just let me know if you need anything else to investigate this.
And many thanks in advance for your help.

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

Maybe that data isn't available.

Check the N2K Sources page in Exp's settings. If you have changed any, reset them all to ALL.

Re: No wind data with Actisense W2K-1

I got the instrument connection to work again but only after uninstalling version 12.7.16 and installing 12.4.8.  I don’t know what changed between the versions but the Actisense ASCII connection doesn’t seem to work properly for the W2K-1 with version 12.7.16.
All the instrument settings were the same but it would not display AWA, AWS, Bsp or Hdg in 12.7. With version 12.4. all instrument data was displayed.
