H2000 Display Lighting Problem w/ Expedition

Hi All,
I have been attempting to solve a long-time problem with no success.

I am using Expedition on a Dell Rugged Tablet, connected to a B&G H2000 w/ performance processor. The connection is via wifi router -> moxa nport -> performance processor.

The system is working very well, with Expedition data displayed on B&G external channels. However, we have had problems with the B&G backlight. The backlight for all displays turns on with any power button, but turns off after a short time (around 30 seconds usually). The problem also occurs when the computer is wired directly using a USB-Serial adapter. The problem is not apparent when Expedition is not running, or when the computer is disconnected from wifi. I can also avoid the situation using NMEA 0183 at night, which limits instrument data into Expedition and prohibits external channels being displayed.

Nick already confirmed by email that Expedition does not send any lighting messages.

I noticed a "Lighting control input" on the performance processor. Monitoring with a voltmeter while the computer is not connected, there is consistent low voltage (~3v) on the circuit when display lights are on, and 0v when they are off. With the computer connected and Expedition running, there is what appears to be comm signal voltage on the lighting circuit, pulsing between 0v and 6v.

Would it make sense to replace the PCB in the performance processor, presuming there is a short circuit allowing signal voltage into the lighting circuit?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Re: H2000 Display Lighting Problem w/ Expedition

I vaguely recall seeing or hearing about that many years ago.

The old B&G network was notorious for conflicts, so it may be related to that. Make sure you aren't sending any tags in the Expedition settings. It tended to have problems with those.

If still there, try only sending one external channel.
