Hi:
I am working on doing some wind forecasting for nearshore small boat sailing specifically off Miami. Regatta is taking place at the moment. Using HRRR as I believe that is most accurate close to shore. I have a few questions that maybe the group can answer:
1) Does anyone know specifically what time the HRRR files are uploaded to the Saildocs server each hour?
2) Under the choices for the Saildocs server, there is HRRR and HRRRX. Does anyone know the differences?
3) I know that HRRR is available under Great Circle/Squid but that is not a visible option for me. Is a subscription required? Not sure it makes any difference.I assume there is only one version of the HRRR.
4) I grabbed an HRRR grib at about 0815 this morning (EST) and the "zero hour" displayed was 0700. I assume that is a run that occurred around 0700 EST. What I am trying to figure out how to get the "freshest" run available at the time I download.
Thanks much,

Chris,1. You can send an empty email to info@saildocs.com to get a lot of helpful info on their service. Also see item 4 below 2. The High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) (24 hours max forecast length)url Model: HRRRX Neighborhood Probability (Experimental) : (48 hours max max forecast length)PLEASE NOTE: This site is not supported 24/7 and may be subject to outages.url 3. Check with Squid generally the 'hires' models are in the paid subscriptionsurl # # 4. The best way to answer your question is for you to keep a spreadsheet with columns showing the time of your download for each model/source and the time of the earliest forecasts it contained. You will find it varies and will also find the best time for you to grab the data . This holds true for what ever method you use eg Saildocs, Squid, Expedition or other. A good Winter project.

The 00, 06, 12 and 18z HRRR runs go to to 48 hours. The others are to 18 hours.
The HRRR data from the Exp server has a small advantage in that it is on the orginal projection. Sailocs and Squid interpolate it to a regular grid so any software can use it.
