Technical Q&A » Iso vs Grid routing... » 3/26/2023 5:43 pm

Is there an explanation of how Grid and Isochronal routing actually works?
GRID - I am interested in understanding how on an 8km x 8km GRIB (I assume there is one TWS/TWD/MSLP/etc data point inside that grid every hour?) there is an interpolation between each grid. Is it linear?
Isochronal - I assume that the interative paths are defined by the settings in the routing resolution?
Would welcome a high level description please.

Just had a laptop/mouse failure due to being splashed (actually drowned) downstairs!
Q1. Can anyone recommend a waterproof trackball?
Also we have Toughbook at nav station and Laptop (Remote desktop) and Mesa.
Q2. Could an expert explain the setup for using Toughbook (slave) and Mesa ondeck please.

Would anyone be able to supply a heel and leeway table (a dummy one would be fine) so I can get the format right (positive and negative).
Many thanks!

I suppose this question comes from the fact that in my log, the data for say HDG is not always in the same column. Is this normal?
Was there a specific reason for changing the format? (just curious)

Nick - is there a simple way in Excel to convert to everything lined up under its field heading (other than a complicated lookup table)? (I want to look for glitches in inputs and use pivot tables, etc)

I am using the latest version (11.16) and my latest log file:
1. doesnt look the same - Line 1 is the fields, but line 2 has consecutive numbers from 1 - 365
2. the data seems to be offset and not lined up in the correct columns?

Any ideas?

As a 'weekend warrior' and not a professional, I use Excel to undertake post race analysis.
One of the biggest chores is to 'delineate' legs in the log file. Yes I know I can use TWA and HDG, but its just one more step if you are using a pivot table for example to run the analysis
Would it be possible to add 'active leg' into the log file please? This would save me a lot of time.
Or is there a better way?
Many thanks

I want to run 10years of historical routing, 2 weeks either side of the start date. I have the grib file from Copernicus and have loaded it up into Weather files - all good. Running this takes about 3 to 4hrs (and the 'bar' doesn't seem to show progress?)
Ive set up only Isochronal optimising
In the 'Multiple time lapsed optimal routing' pop up box I have made an assumption and put in the following info:
. Number of Runs = 14days x 2 (either side of teh race start day/time) x 10years (ie 280)
. Time increment = 24hrs
. Start time = 2 weeks and 10years earlier than the actual start date
. Number of years = 10
But I don't get what I want??
Can you advise how to fill in the input box fields please.
