Questions about Expedition features » Import waypoints to Zeus3s » 7/11/2024 10:39 pm |
Be careful with that Zeus sync tool; when I tried it on a plotter, it treated the external web app source as the "source of truth" and wiped out all the tracks/routes locally created on the plotter.

Argh... That's what it was for both GPS and BSP.
Sorry Nick.
Thanks
Technical Q&A » Using Expedition Wire Protocol to push simulated boat data. BSP/GPS » 6/23/2024 3:06 pm |
Hey Nick,
I've written some code that pushes simulated boat data to Expedition, using the Expedition wire protocol over UDP.
Out of all the data fields I've tested, the only ones that do not seem to work are BSP and GPS-related data such as Lat/Long.
The BSP one has me stumped, is there another field of data that Expedition wants, for that to register? I can see it coming through on the raw data.
For the GPS, I have the network selected as the GPS source and am publishing the following fields/values (with the checksum at the end.)
#0,48,${row.Lat},49,${row.Lon},41,${PDOP},39,${GpQual},43,${GpsNum},44,${GpsAge},45,${Altitude},46,${GeoSep},47,${GpsMode},146,${GPSTime}
For the values, I'm using real values from one of my log files while testing.
Does Expedition not accept the Expedition instrument type as a valid GPS source or are there extra fields that I should include?
Here's a copy and paste from the Raw data window for two updates.
#0,50,38.6,15,23.2,51,11.371,17,-0.2,1,11.728,13,42.7,2,118.5,3,10.42,18,-4.2*3C
#0,48,-27.83562,49,153.605404,41,1.4,39,1,43,12,44,0,45,13.81,46,0.01,47,3,146,45464.92426*0D
Any suggestions?
Cheers.

Great stuff. Looking at the raw data on the B&G instrument settings page of Expedition, you could also confirm that the data is going out as expected. (I'm sure it is, but I like to check each step.) I'd keep the keep the names generic to start with.

Hi Volker,
How are you expecting those values to show on the plotter? When viewing the data, you must look at the external channel source data (on your plotter), not the default data values such as "VMC". In case that wasn't clear from my earlier reply.
I'm surprised you're able to connect with web sockets without an H5. I did not think you could connect straight to the plotter with that protocol.
To my mind, your plotter is only on the n2k network (not ethernet) and your expedition will have some kind of interface to get it onto the n2k network too (Like an Actisense), unless you have a processer that's interfacing on both web sockets and n2k.
(I do run my plotters on ethernet, but that's for chart/master/slave sharing and FTP access to transfer waypoints. (Zeus 3s))
Sorry if I'm wrong about this.
Craig.

Hi Volker,
You could try using User Channels. (I don't know if those are available without a processor)
Sometimes, the plotters won't accept external sources of truth for values like that, as they believe they are the only source of truth for all things navigation-wise.
Publish a value, such as Bearing to Mark, on a user channel and setup a data panel on the plotter to show that user channel value.
Craig.
Technical Q&A » Data logging non N2K pgns - eg; B&G measured boat speed port and strbd » 3/24/2024 2:26 pm |
Also, let me know if your measured boat speed is right? I looked at my logs the other day and the number matched the BSP, which shouldn't be the case. I haven't drilled into it yet to confirm that I'm logging the correct ID.

Hi Nico,
Have a look at the web interface on your H5, the all data page. If the ID numbers aren't visible (I don't remember), you can definitely inspect the web page to get out the ID numbers.
This reference has some details too, including how you can write code to get all the IDs on your system.
General Discussion » Raymarine Chartplotters... » 1/07/2024 4:19 pm |
Hey Sparky,
It's been a few years since I've used Raymarine gear. Still, I remember that I could send the active waypoint to the Raymarine instruments using the various appropriate PGNs, but this was likely on older E7-type plotters with older network setups.
Hopefully, the newer ones aren't like B&G Plotters, which won't accept any navigation source except for themselves. (Though there are tricks)

I run a Ubiquiti Bullet upstairs inside our pedestal. Powered by PoE. And a separate access point downstairs. Different access point names and the Bullet passes through DHCP assignments etc.
