Technical Q&A » Calibration - Mast Height » 5/18/2025 6:45 pm |
What does having a 'mast height' calibration source file do to other parameters in EXP?
Should I have it, not have it, have a single figure or use a table that has mast height above the water associated with the heel of the boat (ie more heel, less height - geometric).
Not sure?
Technical Q&A » Reanalysis and the 'Multiple' run process » 4/16/2025 1:38 am |
In the past I have been able to run 'reanalysis' of a course using the Copernicus downloaded gribs - 20years of runs. Great value. Of course I cant remember how I did it
Trying to do the same again and can only get 'No Wind at Start' error message and I have tried a variety of options in the Multiple setup box, to no avail.
I have redownloaded the grib several times to ensure I have the data - about 1.2GB
Can you demystify the process and setup please?
Should I start at year 20 (eg race start at 0900 26/12/2005) and then do hourly intervals over 20years?
Does the start time in Optimal settings have anything to do with this?
Any advice would be gratefully received
Technical Q&A » Leeway coefficient » 3/04/2025 7:14 pm |
One supplementary question, the mast height value directly below the leeway cal
If I set this to actual wind instrument height, how does that affect 'everything'?
Does that affect the GRIB wind speed? I now have a boat with the wind instruments @ 32m above water level, so I am starting to consider the Hellemen exponent and would be factoring wind speed up by about 14%. Manual doesnt seem to talk about it?

Gotcha - thanks Nick!

In the Leeway calculation inside Expedition, if you check 'Leeway from heel and bsp' what coefficient is applied in the calculation of Leeway?
Technical Q&A » Swapping laptops between boats with different instrument config » 2/18/2025 8:03 pm |
OK - understood.
Can you explain how they are then loaded?
I assume you have to edit the WIndows Registry files - above my pay grade
Technical Q&A » Swapping laptops between boats with different instrument config » 2/18/2025 7:13 pm |
Nic - many thanks.
I actually have the same display states on both laptop - so that's OK.
So how do I export the settings? (I assume that will copy the Instrument connection details?)
Regards
Mark
Technical Q&A » Swapping laptops between boats with different instrument config » 2/18/2025 4:57 pm |
I have two Windows laptops - each configured to respective boats (different lengths, different instrument config, different polars, sail charts, marks, race notes but same display states, etc, etc) - both interfacing with H5000 via websocket and one using an Actisense via USB port to get data out and into the Garmin jumbos. The Instrument Configurations are quite complex.
I want to swap the laptops (or indeed use one of them on both boats).
I understand that the 'User Config' files can transfer the display state as well as simple stuff like boat length, etc.
However is there a 'config file' that holds the Instrument connection setup that I can simply save centrally and load to swap laptops or move a laptop from boat to boat (and back)?
Your advice is always timely and useful.
