RORC Caribbean 600
It seems like it ought to be possible to use cell service for data download at several spots along this course. Has anyone here tried that?

Hi - the navigator last year tried several spots near St. Barth's and St. Martin then near Guadelope. He had limited success. I'll be trying this year - I was looking for a cell tower map but no luck. If I find anything out, I'll pass it on ...

I will be trying with an external Cell antenna to a cell wifie, possibly an on board repeater amplifier.
What boat are you on so we can compare notes on setup.
I will be on Spirit of Venus.

well, it ended up that I had cell service for quite a lot of the race, and I think one could reasonably plan on using nothing else for this race.
really, the only problem would be if you wanted to download a lot of position reports. you wouldn't get them when you were in between the islands.
