Thanks Nick, given the limited area covered by the Access files it would be wonderful to have a way to concatenate the files for different areas. I assume that’s currently not possible in Expedition?

Alternatively, generating a route to the boundary of the grb file would at least allow comparisons to be made between different grb files for the period covered by the Access file.

I have tried the standard Linux cat function with the two files covering the same time period but does seem to work.

I was recently trying to create an optimised route that extended beyond the area covered by the Access-Sydney grib file. This generated a "no wind" error when using the Ensemble function. This was despite having the Access-Brisbane grib file selected as file that the Ensemble function could use. The second file covering the area north of the Access-Sydney file that the route was to pass through.

Was this error to be expected or should the Ensemble function be able to pick up that there's  a valid grib file available to use for the northern area not covered by the first grib file?

Hi Nick, not sure what is happening but I am getting wildly different optimized routes from different runs that should have been identical. The image below shows the outcome of three different runs, each using the Ensemble function. The two routes furthest west were UM model generated routes from a run that included ECMF, GFS and Access gribs. One with the Copernicus current data included, one with it excluded. Surprisingly, removing the current appears to have no effect. I then did a run using the Ensemble function with only the UM and Copernicus data included but current increased to 200%. That produced the route furthest to the East. I then set the current back to 100% and that produced the intermediate route, avoiding the current. I was expecting this last result to overlay the result from the first run. As you can see I am preparing for the Gold Coast race tomorrow....

Not sure if this works but below is a link to an image on Dropbox:

When I import a route previously exported from the Optimize routine, it appears in the Routes list and every waypoint appears as individual folders in the marks/ waypoints folders list. If I then want to get rid of them later, each has to be deleted individually. Is there any way to group these en-mass into a folder or select all and then delete as a group?

Technical Q&A » Time used in Strip Charts » 1/05/2025 12:45 am

Thanks Nick, got that, but from what I can see, what is then displayed in the “plotter” view and what is in the strip charts are independent of each other. Is there a way to sync the strip charts view timewise (i.e. showing the time the data was collected) as the log is played out in the plotter view? Using this to add events into the data by using both view to confirm timing.

I am reviewing log files post race. Strip chart is displaying the data collected but the time is my current time, not race time. If I create an event (post race) using the Strip Chart, this appears in the Events table at the current time, not the race time. How do I sync the strip chart time with the time displayed on my chart view of our activities?

Just reporting that Expedition 12.1.7 crashed in the middle of the Cabbage Tree Island race this weekend. Strip Chart remained active. Firefox was running with tabs open for Windy and BOM sites. Filezilla was also running in the background. The computer is running Windows 11, had its lid closed and was not being worked on at the time. I have now upgraded to 12.1.11. Let me know if any other diagnostic information would be useful.

Lost all references to recently loaded Grib files (files were still in the grib folder). Reverted to previous mark sets for the active course and lost all Optimised Routes that had been generated. Are these not continously updated in the database?

Update: Now running 12.1.11. Created a route. Went to "add new end mark" and Expedition froze. Unfroze when I shrank the create from taking up the full screen.

Thanks Campbell. I was expecting it to come up as a track so wasn’t looking in the Marks folder.  I am away from a computer where I can check this out but will give it a go in a week when I am back.

I used the export to GPX function provided in the screen that comes up when you are viewing the Results (on the Optimise ribbon) and have then selected one of the routes that has been generated to see further details. The results were generate using the Ensemble function so there is a route for each grib.

Thanks Nick. Is that a bug or feature?
