For an optimal routing to work you need a:
- "NAV" polar of your boat loaded
- route with the first mark (start) selectd as the active mark
- wind grib file that covers the area of your route and at least the time period when you want to start.
- defined start time for the routing (Settings - Opt routing - start time).  Make sure the option "optimize for current position and time" is disabled.

You can make a backup of the Expedition data directory as well as from the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER-SOFTWARE-Expedition.    That way you can always restore your current config.

With Expedition now having 9 presets for the weather display, it can get confusing if you don't remember exactly which settings were stored under which preset.
To solve this, a nice feature would be the possibility to set a short description for each preset ("Wind & Current" or "Wind gusts and current").  Then show this description as a mouse-over tooltip when you hover your mouse above one of the preset buttons.

Suggestions for new features and capabilities » Maintain boat settings for multiple boats... » 8/26/2020 10:56 pm

The easiest way to keep settings for multiple boats is probably to make a backup of the Expedition data folder and the Expedition Windows Registry key.    Then, depending on which boat your are gonna sail on,  restore the backup that was saved for that specific boat.

The only disadvantage of this method is when you want to make a change in an Expedition setting (e.g. add a number box) which you want to apply to all boats.  In that case you need to redo this change for all your saved backups.

Suggestions for new features and capabilities » Heatmap projection on sail chart based on Stripchart wands » 8/07/2020 9:40 am

Idea:

- Set two wands in stripchart
- Press a button in stripchart and the sailchart is displayed
- The TWA and TWD from the time slot between the stripchart wands is plotted on the sailchart as a "heatmap" .  The TWA/TWD combinations that occur very often on the logged samples are plotted in red,  the once a bit less frequent in yellow,  then green, then blue  (as a spectrum).

This could be helpful to optimize the sailchart. When you have been sailing with a particular sail which was perfect (or not) for that given time slot,  you can now easily see in the heatmap how the actual wind conditions were compared to the sail chart.

My color spectrum for wind in Exp basically goes from blue to green to red.
When I compare this to Windy.com I'm missing the yellow part (between green and red),  which would make the shading much more granular.    Can this be achieved by changing the weather settings in Exp?

It's fantastic that Exp now also has a "windy.com" like animated wind flow.

One drawback:
I like to set the color of the flow to "white" (like Windy) as this gives the best visibility on top of a spectrum of colors (assuming Exp weather setting is configured to display wind as a spectrum).   I can do this by changing the color for wind 10m to white.  However:  by doing this, the wind graph in the meteogram is no longer visible as it is a white line on a white background.

Can we have the color of the animated windflow configurable under the weather settings (independent of the color of the 10m wind)?
