NOAA does not (at least as far as i know) distribute weatherfax for the great lakes

but those for the NW Atlantic - from the boston office - do cover the great lakes.

Right now in expedition, the only surface analysis available from that office is the prelininary surface analysis - which doesn't cover as much of the GL as the actual surface analysis - 0Z and 12Z - do

they should probably be added... but they need to be rotated, so maybe that's why they are not there

is there some specific surface analysis or surface forecast for the great lakes that you like?

i've never seen any public source for GRAF - their publicity talks a lot about democratizing weather.., but they don't actually seem to be doing it - yet at least.

The tooltip should give the time for each wind barb if the time data is in the grib file.

i am not seeing the time in the tooltip anymore - i am pretty sure i did see it in the past

also, i guess it's kind of trivial, but the term "windscat" is used in the tooltip to identify the ascat winds as scatterometer winds - but WindSat is another operational wind scatterometer satellite, so maybe it's a little too similar. when i first noticed it, i actually checked to be sure that i wasn't seeing the windsat data

Technical Q&A » viewing c-map after system restore » 3/18/2020 5:45 pm

I just used system restore > delete expedition registry keys..,because i was getting error messages trying to launch the program.

that worked fine for getting expedition to launch.., but i couldn't view my c-map 4d charts anymore

when i clicked on charts > cmap.., i could see that expedition knew i had them..., it just wouldn't display them

then, i logged on to my wifi, and that solved the problem - does expedition need to check in with c-map after a system restore?

sounds like it is talking about the laptop - not the expedition license...

i think the maps are locked to the motherboard some how.., at least i was told once, by c-map, that if i got a new motherboard for my laptop, i would need them to issue me a new c-map license.

c-map have given me a new license a few times when i got entirely new laptops

where did you get the laptop?

General Discussion » Navaids in 4D - What zoom level do you see them? » 3/14/2020 7:48 am

I have switched to C Map 4D.

I now have to be zoomed into the first level D as one zooms in, in order for navaids to appear

I have an older installation on another laptop with C map NT Max - on that i get navaids at level C0 - significantly earlier (while zooming in), so more zoomed out, than with the Max charts

i just want to check if everyone else with 4D is seeing the same thing

if you are using paper charts in the pacific.., be sure you check the chart datum - i mean the geodetic datum, not the depth datum.
it may not be wgs84.., which is probably what your gps is set to

Out of interest and if EC did become an option, what areas would people like covered?

as mostly a US user.., i would say CONUS coastal waters and caribbean at full resolution
N Atlantic and Tropical Atlantic could be lower resolution if needed

I guess you might not need to go all the way to the N pole, but probably 75degN

i do sail in europe a bit, and I guess it could be the same - coastal waters and the Med/Baltic/North Sea would ideally be available at full resolution

I don't make it to the pacific much - so i will let those guys speak for themselves...
