Hi
Bit of an odd one. Rebuilding a new machine. Everything installed for Expedition. While attempting to download my purchased charts I have hit an issue with the C-Map map manager. Basically my windows 11 machine has full internet access. When I hit the maps manager localhost page I see the local content rendered but it tells me it (the maps manager service) cannot access the internet. I've disabled firewalls etc., looked at the service setup, removed and re-installed but still cannot get it to communicate externally.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Nick,

Is it possible to get AIS targets to show up from a web socket connection to a Zeus3?

I am already using web sockets to connect to the H5000 for regular instrument data. I added a second websocket network connection and pointed at one of the Zeus 3 MFDs and enabled AIS traffic in the advanced web socket menu. I can see the raw AIS data but the targets don't show up.

I would also like to make sure that we don't try and put instrument data that the Zeus might be sending into boat0 so so for now I just assigned the instrument source to boatN instead. If this is a supported configuration could you add a 'use instrument data' setting to the websocket settings options?

Thanks,

Tom

Make sure your Zeus 3 has NMEA over ethernet enabled. The Zeus 3 will then accept TCP connections (on port 10110 from memory)

Go into Expedition, add another network connection ( Not websocket ). For instruments select NMEA 0183 AIS, connection TCP Client and pop in the TCP/IP address of your Zeus 3 and port (10110)

Hit connect and watch the magic happen

Hey NJ, slow down, I'm an old bloke and slow of hearing.  Give me the steps in one syllable.  At a time.

Sorry DuncanR

When you create an optimal route you are given the option of exporting the results to a CSV, Marks or a GPX file. If you hit the Marks option the optimal route is saved as a route. Note - It doesn't impact any active route you may have running, it just creates a new route.

In your post race/event wash-up session you can activate as many ( or as few ) of the optimal routing routes as you want and compare them with your loaded track.

The whole thing requires an extra step ( the export to marks ) when you are routing but I think this will facilitate what you are after.

Hope that helps.

Always in pursuit of ways of creating learnings from each race, post race.  I have a very complicated "Report Card", which requires ruthless simplification, but that's a WIP.
My latest bright idea is to produce an image of optimal routings compared to actual track sailed from the logfile, most likely as an image of Expedition track pasted into Word.  That requires both routings and actual track simultaneously in Expedition.
Is there a way of recalling past routings, other than by reloading the GRIBs and re-running the optimisations with all settings present and correct?

Turn the optimal route path into a route as it is generated then recall it when post race processing with track displayed on screen.

That's the 'correct' way imho       :-))

Certainly, the Expedition all-or-nothing AIS tracking is really messy at the start ... spaghetti junction.  I set up AIS 1-7 tracking and switch on AIS later in the battle as the fleet dissapates.
The big issue in E coast Aus is that AIS capability is mandatory, but switching it on is not ..... so during the night there are random appearances and disappearances as competitors take a furtive look and then switch off again ... rather defeats the purpose.

They have to transmit in order to receive?
most boats here in the usa have a switch to turn of transmitting, but receiving stays on

That's easily fixed.. Do what RORC do and put it into the SI's

e.g

"5 AIS 5.1 All boats are required to have their AIS transceivers switched on and able to transmit (at least every 5 minutes) and receive from 0900 on Saturday 28th July and throughout the race. 5.2 A boat’s AIS must transmit: the boat’s MMSI number, current racing name. 5.3 Nothing shall be done to inhibit AIS transmissions 5.4 Boats unable to meet these requirements shall submit comprehensive details of the reason on their Declaration Form and may be subject to protest. The penalty for breaking this rule is at the discretion of the Protest Committee and may include disqualification."

We are experiencing communication interruption to Expedition via the websocket. Expedition loses the data link and does not reconnect. Trying to refresh the connection from the instrument tab does not work either. I need to restart Expedition and in some cases restart the H5000. Anyone else dealt with this issue? Our websocket does run via a shared ethernet switch.

How are you getting you TCP/IP addresses assigned ? Are they static or via a DHCP server ? If you are using the GoFree DHCP server the thing does not always assign the same address during renegotiation. That has caused me countless issues in the past that like your problem required the restarting of things.

Do you have anything else that uses the same address space on your boat ( e.g. 3g/4g dongle ). All these things seem to use the same address space and chums of mine have found themselves connecting to things they didn't realise they were connected to. Might be worth checking to see if you can access the H5000 CPU web page when you get these disconnects..

There was a feature request suggested a while back that was a track tooltip. Hover over a recorded track at any point and get all the historic data for that point.

This would give you what you want. Nick added it to the list..

I have been using getac product for a long time. Great screens, integral gps option for when your instruments pack up and on several occasions when waves have made their way down below directly onto the thing it just keeps working.
