General Discussion » Looking for MS Surface Recommendations / Experiences » 12/06/2018 3:29 pm

I'm looking to move expedition to a surface tablet from my laptop. My laptop is a relatively new macbook running parallels.

My primary goals are the reduce the amount of equipment I need to bring for each trip, longer battery life, better hardware reliability, compatibility with DC charging, can use a waterproof ruggedized case, swappable sims for cell data in different parts of the world and physical portability.

Also, don't want to RDP into a navigation table based laptop - too complicated and error prone when I'm tired and just need to be on deck and watching the course. Also, need to have it in my bunk so I don't have to get up and into nav to answer questions.

If it can make an espresso ... that would great too.

Any help/comments would be most appreciated ... thanks, Mike

Thanks Nick -  is it showing the variation at the cursor as of this year  ?

I've set the status bar in expedition to show variation when displaying charts. If I place my cursor on the chart, the status bar shows a variation of 4'81''. When I calculate the variation manually I get 5'20''.

Does the variation in the status bar show the variation calculated to today by expedition from the chart's published date. So, my paper chart shows a variation of 11'00 W 1984 (10' E) which I calculated to 5'20''. At the same location expedition shows variation at 4'81, this suggests its doing the calculation, but want to be sure. Still new to nav so any feedback is helpful

Thanks,
Mike

Hi  - the navigator last year tried several spots near St. Barth's and St. Martin then near Guadelope. He had limited success. I'll be trying this year - I was looking for a cell tower map but no luck. If I find anything out, I'll pass it on ...

Yes - the charts are in the new format and did work on one install of expedition. I didn't verify a second install. Please let me know if you succeed on the second install.

Hi - I just go those charts so I know they work with expedition. Long story short, order the paper charts, when they arrive there are instructions in there for how to pull down the electronic charts. Then use expedition's chart mgt tools to import. Re-post if you need help after the paper charts arrived...

And also, if you don't want to wait 5-6 days call them and pay for expedited shipping if possible.

Questions about Expedition features » Course/Mark Pane » 11/21/2017 12:02 pm

Hi - finally figured it out so I'd post in case someone else has the same issue. In the right hand upper corner, next to the Window menu, there is menu named State. I clicked on the State menu, and from its drop down set it to Default. The course window pane re-appeared.

When I set marks and course, then goto simulation mode I used to see a window at the bottom of expedition that shows each mark in sequence for the course with bearing, distance, etc. to the next mark. I found a Window menu in the upper right hand corner of the UI that lists windows available (AIS,C-MAP,Course,GPS, etc.). I checked off the Course window but I still don't see it. I was playing around earlier by floating/detaching the course pane window when it I could see it and am wondering if somehow I've "hidden" it somewhere in the UI.

I know its a dumb question but any help appreciated
