Hey

Try clicking on Simulate in the Playback menu ribbon.  Then you will see some random data for boatspeed, wind speed etc.  This will give you some values in the course window.  Not accurate of course and just for example purposes.  Without real data coming from your instruments, Expedition cannot calculate your ETA, sail, wind angle etc.

If you want to see your optimized course - i.e. what course should you sail for your race given the forecast weather, then click on Results in the Optimize Ribbon.  Click on one of the time fields on the left hand side - you will see something like this:

Maybe that is what you were expecting to see?

I recently had some issues with connectivity from Expedition to Ventus.  I had updated the version of Expedition on Bravura to the latest (10.0.13 as of this post).  The update included a change to the networking configuration, designed to accomodate situations where there may be multiple networks onboard.  The idea is that Expedition could broadcast on a specific subnet rather than generally across all addresses.

I had configured expedition to broadcast UDP on 0.0.0.0 which previously worked fine for communicating with Ventus on my iPhone.  But after the update, this stopped working.  Last night (with some advice from Harry at Ventus) I changed the broadcast address to 192.168.1.255.  Everything immediately came back to life.

I think this shoudl be the recommended configuration for communicating with Ventus.  It works much better.

Hey

Does anyone know the rationale used in the track colors.  I can define the track to be basd on VMG%, Bsp%, TargBsp% etc. causing the track to be drawn using a range of colors.  But what does red, green, blue mean in each case.  Is red >100%, blue <100%.  It is not clear and the manual does not cover this topic.

Thanks

Select Number of Network Connections Increase the number of connections by 1.

Usually you won’t already have any networks configured to run with Expedition other than the instrument input so the number of network connections will be 1.
Select Instruments from the drop down File Menu again Select serial and network ports Select the new network connection, not the one that has your instruments listed (Fig. 2)

Select Expedition from the instrument drop-list, Select UDP Tx as the connection type, Select the default port of 5010, or enter 5010 in the port box
Don’t do anything with the boat (0 def) box 7

Click on the Expedition settings box Click on the Exp output box
Place a check mark in the box next to each of the data channels you want to transmit

The standard channels you need to select for the pre-set pages in Ventus Navigator are: Awa, Bsp, Heading, Layline dist on port, Layline dist on strb, Layline time on port, Layline time on strb, Start bias length, Start time on port, Start time on strb, Target Bsp, Target Twa, Twa, Twd, and Tws.
