If I buy CMaps once, can I install them on my B&G Vulcan AND use them with Expedition?

Thanks,
Jack

If it's an XB-6000, can't you just connect via NMEA2000/Actisense?  Is there a good reason to use USB instead of NMEA 2000?

I just ran an optimal route with TWS % enabled but all of the finish times are exactly the same.

Do I have something inadvertently clicked?  What am I doing wrong?

I think they're trying to emphasize old school sailing and looking around rather than on board data analysis.  There's some value in seeing what's happening rather than relying on instruments.  Like learning long division before using a calculator.

GPS info is okay.

The real value to me, I think, is that no one has a set of polars for these boats, so to get some put together before the race will really help in routing.

Gents-
I'm kind of new, and I'm looking to set up a system for a small boat.

ClassGlobe580.com – Build your own MINI and race around the world, or the bay!

I know I'll be using a small laptop (probably a Panasonic Toughbook) coupled with an Iridium GO.  We aren't allowed wind or knot/log instruments, but I can see setting up those systems for testing and such and pulling them off of the boat for the races.  I'm thinking an ultrasonic BSP indicator.  We're pretty limited in that we can use solar panels only (no wind, water, diesel) for recharging, and those have to power nav lights, electric outboard, nav/comms, AIS, etc.

If anyone's set up a system like this, I'd like to hear about your experience, but all comments welcome.

Thanks,
Jack

I used a Garmin 76CX for two trips to HI.  I didn't use any of Exp's analysis tools (no AWA, AWS, etc) but it worked great just for position, speed, COG, SOG, VMG, etc. and setting up weather and routing.  I plugged it into the laptop directly with USB/USB mini.  I also used the auxiliary antenna for the GPS with the suction mount to an appropriate fixed porthole and suction cup mount.

It's a good solution for a primary GPS but it's a bulletproof and foolproof backup/secondary.  I just recently learned how to connect the boat's instruments to Exp and it's great, but I'm not so confident in my skill so I still carry the handheld.

Added bonus: Handheld GPS works great in an RC whaler for setting marks (without the laptop, of course.)

Thank you, Nick.  On top of it, as always.

I've seen that page before, but I've never found it by surfing there or searching for it.  For Pacific Cup years ago, the OA  gave out that address, but I've never received that for another race.  I'll keep the format, and maybe I can find similar pages for other races.

Thanks again.

Hi guys-
I'm tracking the California Offshore Race Week 2019.  Yellowbrick has this new function that they track multiple legs of a race with one website and just use multiple tabs on the webpage.  Works great there.

My problem is getting later legs YB info imported into Expedition.  All I get is the last time stamped position info when YB stopped tracking the first leg.  Specifically for corw2019, I get the last time stamp for the Spinnaker Cup (first leg, finished 5/26 or so) but I can't seem to get info for today's race.

Anyone found the trick?  I'm sure I'm missing something (as usual).  Is there a different YB code for this?

It's not critical because I'm not racing, but I like dry running things before I go offshore.  Things are hard enough out there without troubleshooting...

Thanks all.
