Syd-Hobart 2016

Well all, we are nearly at That Time of The Year Again.  Going down on TP52 Celestial, having had a late callup and being focussed on persuading instruments to tell The Truth, as they now do in at least 10 knots .... 20 knots?  Don't know, haven't tested it!
And Hebe is being kind, it looks like fresh running and reaching conditions and at this stage a certain new race record. Where is Comanche, she'd eat this one up.
TPs are notoriously wet - in this one wet weather gear is often worn below .... and she dives a bit, being pretty fine forward.  Have therefore just replaced my Musto HPXs with a new lot!
Have a good and safe Christmas, and I'll post the other side of Bass Strait.

Re: Syd-Hobart 2016

That should be quite a contest! Duncan on Celestial and Will on Ichi Ban; Duncan with the Director of CYCA and Will with the President of Aus Sailing!

Best of luck guys,
Sail Safe!

Re: Syd-Hobart 2016

I cannot load the position reports via YB; rolexs2h2016 gives an error. Any ideas how to bypass this?

Good luck to those who are actually doing the race!

Have a safe trip.

Re: Syd-Hobart 2016

Boj,
I don't have Exp available at the moment but the extension rolexs2h2016 looks right.
You can check your spelling by entering the url http://yb.tl/links/rolexs2h2016 in your brouser
That will give you a list of the SH yb url's where you can watch the tracker (if all else fails)  and what ext. to use for Exp.
http://yb.tl/rolexs2h2016-expedition.txt
http://yb.tl/rolexs2h2016-boatids.txt are the ones you need and both seem to be there
Sorry I can't help more,
Cheers,
Ernie

Re: Syd-Hobart 2016

I now bypass it via the API option.

But cannot make the 'normal' way work.

Thanks for the help

Re: Syd-Hobart 2016

Congratulations to  Duncan on Celestial and Will on Ichi Ban taking 3rd and 2nd in IRC Div1 out of 16 starters!  Pretty outstanding in what looked to have been some frustrating moments.
Well done to you and your teams!
Ernie

Re: Syd-Hobart 2016

Probably the easiest, most frustrating and certainly the warmest S-H of all time.  Wearing shorts in Hobart is unusual; not wearing thermals up the Derwent at night unheard of.

I'l post some tracks and analysis etc. as I process the data, but like this:
a) 11 hours of hard running - very, very wet.  TP navigator's second best friend is a bucket;
b) 10 hours of slow running or really slow drifting;
c) 9 hours of hard reaching and running, wet again;
d) 10 hours of slow drifting in mist and rain;
e) And finally 4 hours gybing up Storm Bay and the Derwent in a soft E (and rain).

Easily a record race, pity about the flat spots.  Not one tack between leaving Sydney Harbour and finishing.  Not one.

If anybody wants the logfile (55 mbs) and polars to play with, PM me.  I now there isn't much happening in the US at this time of year!

Cheers
