Laptop advice

Hi,

I'm thinking about replacing my nav computer with a used rugged Dell laptop (see link) and I'm wondering if a low power 4th gen Intel cpu will be enough or if the laptop might have trouble/feel slow doing expedition stuff such as ensemble routing, loading heavy grib files etc. Does anyone have any thoughts/experience on this?

Many thanks!

Re: Laptop advice

I use a 3 year old Panasonic Toughbook CF53 (their entry level model) quite happily.  The one reservation I do have is the small 14" screen and the colour palette, which is comparatively narrow.

Cheers

Re: Laptop advice

Plenty of years with the Panasonic Toughbook cant go wrong
Toughbook CF-3X if your boat is really wet
Toughbook CF-5X if it is not so wet

Re: Laptop advice

And avoid the small ones if you can.  Expedition gets really cramped on those small Toughbooks!

Re: Laptop advice

I have been using getac product for a long time. Great screens, integral gps option for when your instruments pack up and on several occasions when waves have made their way down below directly onto the thing it just keeps working.
