Pinging start " No position" error

Attempting to ping start mark from boat position I received error "Start: No position"

GPS connected to laptop, Exp accurately following boat.

I haven't been able to find anything obviously related in Exp Help...any ideas where user error is coming in?

Note: Exp laptop was not receiving any data from boat instruments, but was connected to a USB GPS that worked whole race. I have pinged successfully in the past and had start line running

Cheers,
Christian

Re: Pinging start " No position" error

By default it tries to set it at the bow.

If you don't have a compass, this can't be done.

There is an option to ping at the bow or GPS.

Re: Pinging start " No position" error

Under Start -> Set Port -> Set Port end at Bow, I click OK and get the error. Currently Exp isn't receiving compass, but does have GPS, do I need to choose instead one of the Port End options, like Remote?

Re: Pinging start " No position" error

See the Racing/Start settings for the ping option

Re: Pinging start " No position" error

I have "Ping marks at bow (else GPS)" ticked...i'm not clear on the setting i need to ping a start mark without compass telemetry

Re: Pinging start " No position" error

If you un tick that option it will ping at the GPS. That should solve your problem.

Re: Pinging start " No position" error

Exactly. If you don't have a compass, Exp has no way of knowing where the bow is.
